I just had my 71 dp 1600cc motor rebuilt completely with a new clutch, pressure plate, bearings, fuel lines, fuel pump, engine wiring, main jet, cables.....etc for 1367$ with tax, it looked like a steal, I guess ill know when I drive it. Lemme know what you paid or if I'm a dummy for not doing it my self.
Thanks

If he did a full rebuild, it's a steal at that price. Sounds more like it was an inspect parts and put them back in because they have no wear, change the rings, and paint the tin.

yeah, i know he didnt replace much more than the rings and gaskets, he said his price includes milling if needed, he didnt charge for labor on the fuel lines, theres a new pressure plate and throw bearing? in there also. is there anything wrong with a rebuild without replacing the pistons? he said he will fix anything that goes wrong for a year for free. Now i found out i need new front brakes and soon a new front beam. oh well, that comes with buying an old vw.

For a stock 1600, usually the pistons are good for a lot longer than the rings. There isn't likely to be any problem with using used pistons on a stock motor if they were checked for damage thoroughly.

hey thanks for the input, i had the feelng that no one would reply since i have only made a few posts. The guy i went to does good work, if i wanted to put a big bore kit on it i would only have had to pay for the kit and labor was included and he would still warranty it. I have seen several cars he has done and i think i finally found the shop i have been looking for after being burnt in the past with my volvo at a "reputable" shop.
