I was tired of having to fill up so often so I decided to make a larger fuel tank. I contemplated just getting the 12 gallon reproduction, but that wouldn't be as fun. Plus I would still have to pretty heavily modify it for an in tank EFI pump. Also, one down fall for all of the original style tanks is the loss of capacity due to the provision for right hand drive.
I designed the tank in Fusion 360 and had the panels cut by Send Cut Send. The first try was made of 6061 .063". It came out pretty warped so I scrapped it. The second one is 5052 .125". Both the alloy and the thickness made it come out sooooo much nicer. I made 2 CNC mounting flanges for the pump and the sending unit. I swapped the fuel qty setup for a 240-33 ohm marine style sending unit and a new programmable gauge. Send Cut Send sent me 2 of one of the pieces and missed one of them. I'm waiting for them to send me the missing piece to finish welding all the panels and the mounting flanges. Its about 2 in taller than original and drops down a little lower in the back. I also gained a little capacity by not having the tunnel section for right hand drive. Here are some pics of how the second tank has come out so far.
