If you have a 71 or ealier upright engine, yes, you can take all the type 3 components off and the longblock is basically the same. Put all the type 1/2 upright components on and get a block of plate for the hole in the case for the type 3 oil fill /dipstick.

Other oddities may include needing to re-position the distributor drive gear and if the case is tapped for the oil pressure sending unit.

the oil cooler, and the heater boxes/ exhaust must be changed to the Type1/2 parts
