Got a rock in the windshield of the Buggy the last summer that we ran it. Now it has cracked top to bottom across the passenger side so it needs to be replaced.
I changed the seat mounts to make them easier to service and take in and out but that raise them up 1.5" from where they were. Easier to get in and out too as a result but... now the upper W/S frame is right across the very center of my vision! Very annoying to say the least!
Here is what I propose to do... When I get the new W/S cut I will make it 3" shorter. This will allow me to look over the top most of the time while driving with the added benefits of a slightly lower wind resistance and a bit of a custom "chopped roofline" look from the front. I will need to shorten the wiper arms too.
Thoughts?

Will you always be wearing glasses or helmet with a visor? I prefer the bugs to hit the glass, not my face!

Before Dino built my windshield, I sat in the driver's seat. My neighbor took my 4 foot level and placed it on my head and held it level. He then dropped a tape measure down at the angle to approximate the same as the windshield.
I ended up getting one cut where I could just see the horizon through my windshield. _________________

I started having hamstring issues, so decided I needed a more upright sitting position. I raised the seats, and then the top of the windshield was right at my line of sight. I had Dino make me a taller windshield. Doesnt look as sporty, in fact it looks cartoonish, but its comfortable and functional. |

Good point about the bugs. I know that rain is not really an issue. For the most part it goes up and over my head by a good 8" at present. Some of the larger bugs, like the hail does, drive right through the high pressure area immediately above the windshield. No we do not wear helmets in this Buggy but I do wear sun glasses. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |
