Just replaced my shift rod bushing with one of these :

The original style bushing in my bug was about 3 yrs old, and I had some play and occasional rattling with it.
This new bushing is definitive upgrade, shifts are smooth, and no rattling !
And I was able to do the whole thing in about an hour, using the method in this video, worked very well, and it didn't become a major cursefest...

Thanks for the link. I tried to reinstall the shift rod once with the help of wife. Never got it installed. My father came over and five minutes later we got it. _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

yes, it is a pain...
Also, I think when you do it like everybody has done it for ages, pushing the rod through with long pliers, you mar the surface of the rod, which makes the plastic bushing wear out faster.
Like I said, my stock style bushing was only 3 years and not many miles old, and it already had play , |

| Wpap the plier jaws with blue (yellow or green) painters tape first, no marring and still get a good grip. |

Well, after having tried the method shown in the video, with the PVC pipe, I don't think I'll use pliers for this job again... |

Has anyone here had one of those types of bushings installed for a period of time? I’m curious as to what you think.. _________________ John

| I installed one about 18 months ago, it was a bugger to get it to snap in place. Once I got it installed I greased the shaft and it's been great. A huge improvement. It was very tight at first, but has loosened some as I've driven the car. Driven over 2000 miles since installation. |
