Currently I have a toothed Bosch AVX-10x685 in the 1972 1600 engine.

Looking on heritage websites they use 10 X 905.

What is the correct size to use and does it make a difference?

Should it be toothed or flat?

Tooth or flat - I have seen/used both, there are reasons while not critical at all in my experience. Right size first, right tension then, and if anything other there is some variation maybe to tooth vs. smooth, while both shuold work.

So one size stated for generator and one for alternator

Gen: Belt 9.7x905mm
Alt: 11.3x912mm

This one would assume that pulleys etc. are matching that presumably...

On my 1600cc DP engine with generator, I use IAP 111903137D

It takes about 30 minutes to get the belt to its stretch point. Install it one shim tight or adjust it afterwards.
