Hi,

I'm pretty new to the Bug world, just got my 56 oval and its about 80 percent finished. I checked out the archives part and I'm abit confused on where to look on for my oval "Model Number", not the chassis/vin number. On the front hood, there is one big silver plate, first line reads VW1/11 etc and below it is a set of number 209304 stamped/pressed into the body of the car and below it is a small plate saying made in western Germany. What does the number 209304 stands for or what does it tell about a car ? The car chassis number is 1168953

209304 is the body production number only.

Hi,

Thanks for the info, but how do I know which type of model my car is, for example, how do I know whether is a 111,112,115 or 116 or 118 model.

You've answered your own question already. You have a 111 which can either be a deluxe or a standard model. If your car was brought here into the US by a VW Dealership, chances are you have a deluxe. The 113 deluxe designation were only used on original VW parts to be used on a Deluxe Beetle.

Chassis number 1 168 953 designates the build date during April 1956

Model number designation:
111 left hand std
112 right hand std
113 left hand deluxe
114 right hand deluxe
115 left hand convertible
116 right hand convertible
117 left hand sunroof
118 right hand sunroof

Hi,
Thanks for the info, so the first line on the plate type 1/11 is equivalent to model 111. My car is registered in Thailand but we drive on right hand side and I've just had my car stripped to bare metail and I don't see any sign of left hand drive to right hand drive conversion. ??
