Thanks Busbodger & aryue for the info... I have no idea what seats those are... they look cool since they seem quite low profile... _________________ 1971 Westfalia Campmobile

Well Scott (at German supply) is now working on the front suspension, I'll post pictures soon, and all the painting of the bus is done. I'll post all of those first. Sorry, it's been a busy Summer and I have a lot of pictures to show you guys. _________________ 1971 Westfalia Campmobile

Engine almost complete - installing CSP exhaust |

CSP header modified with heat risers for stock single solex manifold - cool or what! |
With all the posts about heat risers I'm sure (hopefully ) you drilled the flanges for exhaust heat passage before they were finally installed. It's not as good as the stock cross flow but it still does the job.
Some nice parts in that build.
I hope that no engine or bus updates in the last 6 months doesn't mean that you've abandoned the project. _________________ 71 Superbug

holy smokes, no! we are planning to have the Bus completed and drive to the east coast in early August. we work on it constantly.
I looked at a thread or post a while back about the cross-flow method of adding heat risers to headers, it looked interesting. good to have the flow working that way, but this simpler method will work decently well, and yes the risers were drilled after the photos above were taken. _________________ SL |

Bodywork Section
Well, it's about time I put up these pictures of the bodywork and paint of my bus. The work was carried out by Volker Gebelhoff of 'Body by Crome' just outside Toronto. He did a fantastic job, and over the last few days of resizing some of the 500+ photos he took of the entire job to put on this page, it struck me how much of a wonderful thing he's done here. I am truly overwhelmed by it actually. Thanks Volker!
I'm only going to put up a smaller selection of photos, but if anybody has a specific request for a photo, Volker probably has a few shots of it, and I'll post them for you
first few days in the shop...
finding the bad bits
battery tray
bumpy-bum
new 'green klassicfab panel'
cut down to size

hahaha that's a good idea!! No seriously, Scott is going as fast as he can, (he is meticulous) and is doing a great job. I'm behind in the pictures, but hope to load up a bunch in the next few weeks. _________________ 1971 Westfalia Campmobile

Great stuff!
Sigh. My poor bus is still waiting for me to find someone who is willing to do the tiny bit of work it needs. So depressing. _________________ 1974 Thing - x-Acapulco

I remember reading this thread and loving it. The bus is looking fantastic.
I have to ask though, do you consider it was worth it? It's been off the road for what, two years? And prior to that you were using it for camping and getting out in it, would you have preferred a 'rolling resto'?
I ask because I'm also getting a 71 white westy. Very solid, but like yours I imagine will needs bits and bobs doing here and there.
I imagine it's a lot like childbirth. You forget the months carrying it and the pain of labour when you hold in your arms a nice shiny VW |

That's a good question, I could die tomorrow, and I would have missed the pleasure of driving it the last little while as it is getting worked on. Yes it would have been nice to have a magic wand and have it all fixed-up. But in the long run having this all done will be better than say a rolling resto because of my mechanical skill and also it's so much easier to fix stuff now, while it's apart, than say on the side of the road. Both have trade-offs and advantages. The real drawback is, I miss seeing it's face looking at me when I open the garage door. Can't wait till it's home again. I hear ya Mike, I live in a not very populated area, which doesn't have much in the way of vw expertise and had to send my bus 950 miles away to get the work done. I could have found local bodywork and such, but it's hard to find people who really know about aircools and the inner workings of the bay window bus. _________________ 1971 Westfalia Campmobile
