VW simply failed to plan a 4(5)-door Type4 Variant (Estate).

That was already the case with the Type 3.

Besides, it was too late for that now, because the production lines had already been converted for the water-cooled generation.

The Passat B1 (73'-80') was then available as a 4(5)-door Variant (Estate) in 1974.

Don“t forget the Brasilia and Igala (Nigeria).

But some prototype 4 door Variants were built. The future was front wheel drive and water cooling. The Audi 80 from 1972 was the better basic car for that in Europe und USA.

Also there was a (watercooled!) NSU, VW K 70 Variant prototype.
