For the wiring I was going to use a fold over splicer that has an option for I think it is called a spade conector of the power wire of the camera. Thanks for the information. What do you suggest instead? _________________ 1990 Vanagon purchased fall of 2024

In the Bentley page 97.214, 1990 yr. it is a BLK/blu wire going to T7/#4. I found this in another post related to the backup lights.
I cannot climb under the Vanagon at this point because I have a torn rotator cuff. I have a new 77 pound dog that a rabbitt jumped up in front of and almost tore my right arm out of its socket. _________________ 1990 Vanagon purchased fall of 2024

Don’t know what camera you have. I wired mine into the backup lights via a trailer wiring box I already had. I believe the wire was white (don’t quote me). My mirror/display gets permanent power from the dome light. I ran additional power down the A pillar. _________________ 87 Westy 2WD

I believe you are describing a crimper…??? Like any tool, there are good, better & bad style crimpers. It would be great if you learned the name of the tools you’ll be using!
Are you brand new to automotive electrics? If your injury is preventing you from actually working on the van, you would do well to spend some time studying about the tools and type of work you have planned.
A good, basic auto electric manual would answer many of the questions you’ve already posted here. Consider: https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/haynes-automotive-el...on=4574847
If you’re a “just watch a video” -type guy, YouTube is certainly a resource, although you gotta consider the source(s).
Keep up the chatter, this is how we learn things!

OT: Today I replaced the hose between the coolant “tower” & t’stat housing, which had given up on me last Saturday causing low coolant level and therefore blinking light & swinging needle syndrome. Limped it home using my spare coolant onboard plus a gallon of distilled water from the gas station. Parked it until . . . today I pulled out new hose, clamps & spare coolant I already had on hand & got the job done. Hardest parts of the job are just getting all the starter wiring outta the way, working (from below) over the top of the transmission, plus just having to deal with old hose clamps…
Also: Replaced failed shift lever boot at the tranny, repaired recently split (Rockford) CV boot (allowed to set overnight), ArmorAll all remaining CV boots for additional longevity <fingers crossed>, applied headlight protection plastic (GW, urethane actually) to the still kinda new BD H4 lenses & called it a night.
Still more to come this week, but this all puts me closer to Utah next week…

TodaybI sorted electrical connectors and wires and tried testing with a tester that has bulb in it put my Vanagon in reverse turned the key to electrics only. Tried testing parking light wirenn7mber 4 and got nothing searched everywhere for my multi meter to no avail. An excuse to buy na new one. Watched 3 youtube videos on how to use one-to-one test voltage, amperage and continuity. Basics any books I looked at online come from the USA shipping Islas much as the book. Plus American exchange is about 30 percent. _________________ 1990 Vanagon purchased fall of 2024

Kinda why I linked to a used book reseller. New, full price books are gonna get hit with all the “extras” these days...
FWIW, Here’s a seller that I know offers no additional fee for shipping worldwide AND 15% off your first order if you sign up for something-or-other:
https://www.betterworldbooks.com/product/detail/automotive-electrical-manual-9781850106548
From my end of the internet, it shows just $1.49USD shipping for this title, and I checked that with several different addresses in several different countries…all the same shipping fee. Please tell me if it shows you anything different. NO, I’m not associated with the company in any way, other than…
This company was actually started by a former student of mine (unfortunately since passed away) but I’ve ordered from here many times. They are committed to reducing and renewing resources, hence the used book angle. Highly recommended.
Keep in mind, books ship rather slowly (at least in the US) because of the low rate charged for “media mail”. The trade off for cheap shipping is they are always the last packages to be loaded, often just to get a postal shipment up to weight for best efficiency. What doesn’t go out today might go tomorrow…
…or the next day…
- Dave
PS: Don’t buy a new multimeter just because it didn’t “work” one time…first test it in a circuit that you know is working because the thing plugged <or> wired into that circuit is working. You can do this in the house OR in the van. In other words, test your tester! (More electricity basics…) _________________ 86 White Wolfsburg Westy Weekender

Hi Dave Rick again did you print the termperature controller diagram. I like it because it is less confusing. I asked my wife if she could print it like that on her newer Dymo printer. _________________ 1990 Vanagon purchased fall of 2024

Last weekend I finished up my winter projects - replaced the fuel lines, upgraded to van cafe fuel rails, and sent my injectors out to Mr Injector for refurbish. Also replaced the exhaust from the elbow pipe on back.
450 miles on the van this week, running like a champ and have had a big smile on my face the entire time. I've missed her over the winter!! _________________ 91 Multivan Stock |

Finished changing my engine connectors out for Deutsch style ones.
One of the old ones had broken and PO had ziptied it together, but moisture still made it inside and light oxidation was setting in. Figured that as long as I was changing one, I'd update all three to a more serviceable connector -at least for me. Also packed the connectors with anti-oxodizing zinc paste from OxGard.

Over the last few months, took an auto body & paint adult continuing education night class at the local HS. Worked on Ducky's nose rust - definitely learned a lot! Now to put the front end back together. School is out for summer!

Got my seats and rear pad back from upholstery shop, super happy with how they turned out.
I had them add seat heaters and change the sewing pattern to mimic my Volvo 240 seats, that's also why the vinyl doesn't come all the way up to seat edge. Haven't installed yet to check foam stiffness, but it's a "40 grade" whatever that means. They put the same in my recently redone Volvo seats and it's great.
Also had them sew a molle panel straight to the seat back for added utility. I don't have jump seats nor mid-row seats installed.
Not sure if I like how the fuzzy head rests came out but at least the vinyl tears are covered up.
Rear seats would've been done, but I asked them to add seat heaters to them after they were closed up.
