Slowly pecking away at getting the seat panels done. The weather is cooperating at minus 20 C degrees.
Overall I'm satisfied with the results so far. the puckers should vanish once the covers are stretched over the frames. _________________ June 1956 VW Oval Beetle |

Rear seat panels stretched on frames. Reworked the back but cannot get "puckers" out. Living with it for now; may be a do over. _________________ June 1956 VW Oval Beetle

The rear ashtray knob has been missing since I purchased the 56 Oval. Today I decided to make one out of hardwood. The black walnut works for me.
Too cold yet to work on body work so have been tackling small jobs for now. Decided to cover the back of the rear seat in vinyl.

I finished covering the last of the seat bases last weekend.
Time to get back to body work, hopefully. _________________ June 1956 VW Oval Beetle |

Wait! Want to make a few more sets? Well, at least one more set?
Looks great! Those turned out really nice! _________________ Jimbo

Thanks Jimmy, not perfect but will pass as upholstery.
Really need to get back to body work.

I've just gotten back to the Beetle project a month ago, life got in the way the last 5 years. I'm focused on rust removal and repair. I'm stuck into the rear wheel wells, and am just into fabrication and install of patch panels.

I have both sides of the wheel well/luggage tray repairs about 85% completed. I need to fill some blow through spots.
I'll move on to securing the A and B pillars next. _________________ June 1956 VW Oval Beetle |

I adjusted the position of the passenger A pillar to improve the door gap, and make the door opening equal to the driver side at 928 mm A pillar to B pillar. I still have some door sag but that is for another day.
Now on to rust repair on both B pillars. _________________ June 1956 VW Oval Beetle |

The 2 openings are not the same.
Driver’s side is 924mm
Passenger side is 923mm
928mm is too large. That is why it is sagging.
Do not know why. But those are the dimensions.

Jimbo, there are a lot of discrepancies between side to side
that exist that one has to be aware of.
Thanks for the heads up. _________________ June 1956 VW Oval Beetle |

Some more progress on the rear section. I need to locate the rear apron in storage to mock up before I weld in the rear quarters. Have you ever stored a part and then tried to find it.... ? Guilty. _________________ June 1956 VW Oval Beetle |

Have you read my thread? I am always searching for the parts I squirreled away! It sometimes takes more time to find (you fill in the blank) then to get that item in and done! I get it!
I like the inner fender pieces being in place! Takes me back a few years! Such a good feeling! Be sure to mock it all up with the decklid in play. _________________ Jimbo

I found the evasive rear apron; it was exactly where I put it. 🤣 Having it in hand enabled me to mock up and weld in the rear section.

Front "firewall" repair around Napoleon Hat.
Panels fabricated and ready to install, which probably requires body off pan to fit. _________________ June 1956 VW Oval Beetle |

If the body does not change with those pieces cut out, you can do it like that. Get a piece of poster board or some card stock. Then cut a template from it. Make it fit the spot and then transfer that over to the body panel. Cut, install, mark, remove, trim, reinstall, tack, check, stitch, cool rag, psssst, stitch……!
You got this! _________________ Jimbo

I have the inner and outer firewall panels fitted and tacked. I'll lift the body from the pan and finish welding them in then. I received my order for the spare tire tray panel so I'm going to concentrate on installing it. It seems ill fitting so I'll make a template to get it accurate.
My plan is to install an IRS, I scored yesterday., from what I believe to be from a 1971 Beetle.
Worked at separating the transaxle, axles and rear trailing arms and cleaning up everything.
