Tracing the lineage of these spray cans is making me crazy. Below I've attempted to compile the results so far. I've only tried a couple of these myself- so this list is in no way considered the gospel. Some paints are pretty darn close- others like the Sea Blue look very sketchy to me. Gloss is abbreviated Gl, Satin: Stn. This info is taken from this thread and the one in Paint/Body forum- and please offer corrections wherever needed:
L345 Light Gray = Krylon Pebble Gray (Fusion River Rock)
L 82 Silver White = Krylon Dover White
L 282 Lotus White = Rustoleum Gl Ivory Bisque (Heirloom White Stn)
L 380 Turquoise = Krylon Stn Jade (#53509)
L 289 Blue White = Krylon Honeydew Ambrosia
L 360 Sea Blue 1 = Krylon Regal Blue (2- Oxford Blue) [untested]
L 312 Palm Green = Krylon Camo
L 512 Velvet Grn = Krylon Hosta Leaf (#53541)
Bonus round:
interior levers, column sleeve, etc = Krylon Almond
headlight buckets = Krylon Dove Gray
pedal pans, etc = Krylon Battleship Gray
Hope I've been listening- and please edit the errors... _________________

I have had great results with Krylon. I just finished fixin' on my bumpers and got them painted with a krylon white in semi-gloss. I love it! Including primer and paint, 24 bucks Cdn... (for like 7 cans. 2 primer and 5 color)
It is softer sure, but I can touch up or do a whole repaint in like 15 mins for like 4 dollars! SOLD!
For now, my bus is going Krylon white-top w/ hosta leaf bottom. I will block it, high build prime, Krylon prime and then top color.
It may take some time to get it all done, but I am trying to get the nose finished before Xmas, so I will post pics as I go! Cheers all! |

"L 380 Turquoise = Krylon Stn Jade (#53509)"
I started pinting the passenger mirror arm and from what I can tell, it's a very good match...however, not only could I not get the door hinge bolt out, I also typically rushed the paint job causing the paint to run...it's minimal, but I'm going to sand it down...I'll post photos when the mirror arm is installed _________________ 1963 Type II Kombi

Yup- some info was compared with your thread- it just became a "scan the two threads forever" affair. Also, comparing VW paint to swatches on a Krylon website is unfortunately not realistic for actual use. Your 1st shots of actual paint on actual buses helps- the other guesses were unfortunately just that. _________________

Thought I'd post my experience with Krylon River Rock. On the left is Krylon Fusion River Rock satin and on the right is one of Wolfsburg West's powder coated L345 caps. The Krylon is much more beige than grey. They're really not very close.

I used the Krylon Pewter grey semi-gloss... it looks nice (kinda looks like grey primer, cleared over to be honest...lol) I don't know if its closer to the WW caps, but I don't wanna spend $34.00 plus shipping to find out. I'd rather prep some og caps myself and powdercoat them locally. Helps out around here... The WW ones look nice. I currently have larger fish to fry with my bus, so powdercoated caps will have to wait.
I will post a pic of my caps as soon as I get them off the camera.
Awsome thread. Sorry to see the River rock didn't turn out to be close enough... Someone else had posted a pic done with it, and seemed happy with the results. Clearly, from your pic, this is not the case. At least its only a few bucks a can to spray them with something else... CHEERS! |

I think I've mentioned it before, Jerry's Paint on Fulton Ave will match that right up, pretty cheap _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

Thanks Mink for the proper comparo. I too questioned the caps repainted on my DC- and my can of WW L345 just arrived 2 days ago.
Suspicion confirmed- repair imminent! _________________

While I understand why people want to find Krylon matches to paint. The facts are many of these are not really even close to OG Colors.
I personally would just spend a lil extra cash and get some from Tower Paint that matches correctly |

I found that Krylon's Indoor/Outdoor "Celery" is a very close match for Sand Green _________________ '62 Turkis Kombi FOR SALE. Please see my ad. |

Saying that alot of them don't match the factory colors is untrue. IMO -there is a good number of Krylon colors that do match the og colors. More good matches then poor ones... so its a win.
If tower paint is the better choice, then by all means, start a Tower paints thread and start posting up all of your sucesses. Then others can too.
The more paint help- type threads, the better. I am sure we can all agree on that.
-Krylon, its $4.23Cdn. a can and its dry to the touch in 10 mins.
you can buy it most anywhere. I have had great results.
My little brother was using a carquest color match for his S10, They custom mixed it for him, and at $16bucks a can, he can keep it! Paint was alot thinner, and harder (compared to the krylon) to lay down without runs.
Use what you want, This is the Krylon thread, and its goin' STRONG! lol. |

I now have 6000 miles on my engine and my engine bay (from page 1) still looks almost as good as when I painted it. The only stains are from me dripping oil off the stick (when I do that I always say dumass). Been in deep dirt, dust, gravel roads, mud puddles and pavement, and washed it one time so far. The krylon is holding up well.. I will post photo's when I get a new camera... Seems I am too rough on these dang newfangled digital cameras. |

This is a Krylon thread- not disadvantages of.
Often a thread title suggests the contents therein- making arguers sound a bit, well, stupid.
Krylon's been making paint spray from a can longer than I've been using my finger... _________________

i bought 4 cans krylon 53541 Hosta Leaf and am going to spray some on my 65 Velvet Green bus. |
Alright Bill. I wanna see. |
Me too, I could possibly do some small touchups on my '66 if it matches super nice. |
picked up a can of Krylon Hosta Leaf gloss. painted it on the backside of a velvet green gas door i found in my parts stash. the greener color on the left is the Krylon. i think it would pass if you're wanting to paint the whole outside of the bus but if you're trying to blend it will probably stand out a little. _________________ Missouri Micros |
