Cool! I saw a neat Discovery Channel episode all about teardrop trailers a while back. They showed all kinds of nice ones that people had customized and fixed up very nicely inside. Kinda like "Pimp my Teardrop!" _________________

No problem Greg, I got hooked on there a few months ago, so many idea's and so little time LOL...
Once I finish my Wife's 72 SB I'll probably try and convince her we need one to pull behind her bug for going to shows and site seeing.... Would be more of a basic transport trailer rather than for camping so I can take my law chairs and shade canopy. Might toss in a 12V fridge for BEER...... Dang now I want to call Harbor Freight and order the trailer frame.....
Keep us posted on you Tear Drop... _________________ 72 Super Beetle Project

I love tear drops too. I'va always wanted to build one, so I found this website www.desertteardrops.com. You can purchase plans for the trailers and they also have lists of vendors to provide everything you need to build your teardrop. I ahven't built one yet, but I did just finish a street rod trailer to pull behind my Ghia. Check out my gallery for pics of it. |

I had a tear drop trailer my dad bought for me about 20 yrs ago. I towed it out to the Bug O Rama behind my homemade VW trike. The trailer had alot of tonge weight and my dad was affraid I was not going to be able to control my trike so he sold it, damn. It had all of the inside room for two people and the back came up for kitchen area. I will look for some pics in my box and post some. Keep on dubbin. RCDJR aka [email protected] |

Just wondering if Jessechop is still lurking around... Would be keen to see how he is going with his teardrop project. I have started pulling my teardrop trailer apart and getting it ready for its rebuild... Lots of rotten timber I have found so far which will have to be replaced... I will post some more pics soon... I have to have it ready by October for a classic/vintage car and caravan get together on the South Coast of NSW... I took it for a test run behind the bug a month ago and it towed fine... Very light. _________________ If it's not in a Volkswagen I'm not going!

Here's a good excuse for repop fenders. Use some old style on the trailer then you don't deplete the supply of good ones and they would look cool... |

I have my eye on an all fiberglass teardrop. It's layout is a typical "teardrop", a small crawl in sleeping cabin with a kitchen hatch in the rear. But it is not shaped like a teardrop, more like a clam shell. It was made by a boat manufacturer and it was first registered in California in the early 60's. It's super light weight and is just about the coolest looking trailer I've ever seen. I've spoken to the owner, who is not interested in selling, a few times about it. I've searched online and I have never found anything like it. The owner says he has searched and found no evidence of this manufacturer making anything but boats. Does anyone have any info about trailer like this? |

Well I have been very busy with all kinds of projects over the past months. Thought I should post a couple of pics of my Teardrop Trailer. We have an upcoming VW Spectacular coming up in August this year on east coast of Australia. If all goes well my bug and completed Teardrop will be there.
Had to completely replace the top frame as it was all full of dry rot. I'm currently in the process of painting and will post some more pics soon. May this be the next ultimate VW accessory? We'll see _________________ If it's not in a Volkswagen I'm not going!

Here's the "after" pics of the project. I'm now in the process of swapping my bugs 1200 for a 1600 twin port. It will have plenty of hauling power then _________________ If it's not in a Volkswagen I'm not going!

Awesome looking teardrop bro. Here are some pics of one I took at this years classic. It has VW fenders reshaped to fit the curve of the trailer and will sleep someone 6'7" inside.
I really, really like the way this one looked. The lady told us it took her husband about 4 months to get the fenders "just right". _________________ There will come a time when you believe everything is finished. That will be the beginning.

Damn that is a nice looking Teardrop!
I like the way it matches the Bugs curves... I restored mine from the original but, if I were ever silly enough to build another I would build one like that
Cheers

The pop-outs on the trailer side door are a nice detail. |
