Indian is no longer in business. I used to work at an indian dealership. They now sell Victory. Another add for the list that is a specialty builder, but produces a fairly large number of showroom bikes - Arlen Ness.

Indian seems to be trying to rise from the ashes for the umpteenth time...

Anyone familiar with the late Excelsior-Henderson line?

That was another one I was looking into - although quite a bit more expensive (and rare, from what I've heard) than the Indian-built Royal Enfields.

So what's the project, Pinky? I know you work metal, so I figure the answer might be intteresting.

Cool. I hope they make it (this time). I always liked the design of their bikes.

Which one? After the original company folded in 1953, the name was used by Enfield, Minerelli, Morini, and a bunch of other folks on V-twins, parallel twins, 2-strokes, minibikes, scooters (gas and electric), etc. There have probably been more "rebadged Indians" produced than real ones!

The latest manifestation of Indian also bears little resemblence to the original. They're pretty much trying to grab onto Harley's coattails like Victory, Star, etc. That's a pretty tall order in a social group where the general attitude of "if it ain't a Harley (tm), you're a poser" prevails.

True, but the look of the 03-04 bikes was classic. The dealership I was at had a beautiful 04 Chief -w- custom paint on the tank and fairing. Couldn't talk my wife into it. Crying or Very sad

They do look nice, but I'd love to see an American manufacturer do something other than mimic Harley. Why couldn't Indian produce an updated version of the original Indian Four:

Make it fuel-injected with shaft drive and I'd buy one!

When I first glanced at it I thought it was a Buell, what with the V-twin engine stuffed up into the tank...

You would be suprised at how easy they are to pull back up. One of my dad's friends had one, he was 5'4" and 120 pounds, he could get his on it's wheels by himself. They are very well balanced.
