russells bus is a later 58, but still a 58 model year.
he hasnt started working on it yet, only stripping it back to original paint...supposedly he is going to start working on it next week.
...unfortunately.
campy's bus is 4x4? how does that work. is the body set on a different frame or something? _________________ drive your split. |

i have always wondered about a 56-57 walkthrough. Someone stated that it was an option during those years. I would love to see a pic of one, if one does in fact exists. has anyone ever seen one? _________________ www.56panel.com

| I parted out a 1958 double door 15 window, they wouldn't let me buy it it was at a pick and pull. I stripped that baby. It was the shuttle bus for the hotel del Coronado in San Diego, logo'd and everything! |

That must be some kinda stupid law here the people's republik of kalifohnia!
I've tried that before too with a nearly complete bus. They said "once in as scrap, it ain't coming out!" So I asked "what's the difference if I just come and get the doors one day, the engine and tranny another day, etc., until I get everything then finally get the hulk?" They said at that point it does get crushed. _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

its true here in oregon too, especially the regulated yards like upull-it,lots of cool stuff gets crushed just because it ends up in the right/wrong yard,2 that i had to see succumb were a 56 dd panel and a 55 singlecab, the 55 got stripped but the 56 panel still had bumpers when it was crushed,i tried to buy the bumpers even after they squashed it "no,too much liability"
mattoreg has a sundial? its a mid 57 i believe, its a dd panel converted by sundial or another? it had a very cool walkthru conversion carried out at the time of its conversion, not factory but it had sex poles and i loved it,unfortunately it was dismissed as a "hack" and was recutout and replaced with a cabwall, the bus was pretty cool but were talkin 7 or so yrs ago,og paint and any era mods were considered "hacks".
for the record i personally feel that any modification added in or around the era of its conception should be left alone,i know that im a little alone in that thought but its my honest belief that fixing or modifying back these "hacks" is like refinishing a antique peice of furnature...........later the owner and or the owners peers realize important history has been lost _________________ Have a great day! |

I agree
"in or around the area of conception" is a tough one though...someone could have bought a 67 bus new, and then less than a year later in 68 but the rear wheel wells out for the big jackmans or cragars he wanted to run.
Now if we're talking dealer installed hacks, or 'known' hacks like sundial, that is a bit of a different story. _________________ drive your split. |

ohhhh ok, then yes, thats a hack.
thanks for the clarification. |
X2! Said it before and say it again, a hack is a hack is a hack!
Some are done nicely, some are ruined terribly, some are done by the factory as the "plattenwagen" was, which gave the idea for the bus itself. For that matter ALL Binz' are hacks! |
Don't forget Dormobile tops too. |
