cops are worse to ricers , my friends parents own a 2000 beetle 2.0 automatic which they bought of off the first owner when the bug was one month old and the previous owner put a sticker on each quarter glass which says hybrid racing ,besides that its bone stock. anyways my friend was driving it and there was a road check so when he pulled up the cop saw the stickers and asked my friend where hes been racing and and friend says that he hasnt so the cop tells him to shut off the car get out and pop the hood............ damn cops

i was driving my 74 westy through missouri about four years ago, and a cop pulls me over and asks me to step out of the bus. i do and four other police cars come and surround me. the cop slams me in to the side of the bus and frisks me and asks if he can search through my bus. i was driving from florida to seattle and my bus was loaded with clothes and all the normal shit. so he goes though the bus and every bag and totally tears my bus apart and doesn't find a thing. that cop was so fucking pissed he did not find anything. it was the funniest thing in the world. but the reason he said that he pulled me over was it was 3 in the afternoon and i did not have my headlights on?!. which i guess is a missouri law. or he thought he found a damn easy drug bust so he calls the whole station to have them come and witness the great drug bust he was dreaming about. and after shit like that they wonder why people hate them so much. what a crock of shit

I was driving the streets of Yuma AZ small ass hick town where punk ass kids now infest the volkswagen scene that don't have the balls to speak there names. Anyways I was driving my 62rag taking the gf home driving the speedlimit in a slammed to the ground car with 125temps in the front. I thru my new *tags* on earlier that day they were the first of the AZ 2 yr tags, Black with yellow writing. I look up and see a swarm of 2 bike cops on my ass and the sex boobles going. I pull over a hill (huge driveway with slope) to get into the nearest spot to stop. The cop jumps out and tells me to put my hands out the window. I am like wtf!!! They make my gf get out of the car then proceed to walk me backwards to the bike and search me.
They thought I was freaking making my own tags since this is the first time they have seen the 2 yr tags. They harrased me for about an hour and a half before letting me go. Damn Yuma Cops, bet chad has been slapped around by them many times. FIREMAN CHAD that is. How is your wifes bug doing chad?

Once I actually got a "failure to maintain control" citation when I was in high school,for doing a small wheelie in my 69 bug.(taco bell parking lot, small town louisiana). told the cop he did not have any idea "the control i actually had of my car".bingo!!! my first and only police asswhoopin,go figure???

one day while driving home from a friends house on the local freeway in my kombi i got lit up ,only problem i didnt see the pig!!! he was behind me for quite a while suprised he didn't call for backup or do the pit manuver(when they get there ego hurt and ram you cause your disobeying there authority),anyway about 10-15 min into the low speed pursuit my friend that was following me pulls up next to me and points backwards.i pull over and get a warning for not signaling while changing lanes about 15 miles back!!!

ledbug67, if that officer that clocked you goin 82 used radar, he may have read it wrong. sometimes the radar adds the speeds of the patrol car and the car being "targeted."
i also want to say that these cops that everyone is speaking of do not represent all police officers. yes, there are some real prik cops out there, but as someone who is involved in my local police department, i know of many very decent cops.

I remember another incident, i was over at my friend's house working on my bug, the timing was off so we were adjusting the dist. and driving it around the complex until it was working correctly. Appearantly this was disturbing the neighbors as one of them called the cops, but they didn't show up until i was leaving. I drive over a speed bump, and as i get in the middle of it, 2 sheriff cars pull up, blockin my exit. One gets out and informs me that i was being loud and asked if i had been speeding up and down the block, "no officer! I am an upstanding law abiding citizen!" Then he preceeds to ask if my engine is modified, and that my exhaust isn't legal, blah blah. Now here's the kicker, i give him my info and he comes back and says, "Mr. Martin you are wanted on 2 counts of aggrivated assualt and armed robbery, would you like to explain that?" I told him you've got the wrong guy, then the pig laughs and says, oh yeah maybe it isn't you... FUCKING TIME WASTING MOTHER FUCKERS.

Get this. My bus was parked in front of my house, in my driveway. I'm in the garage rebuilding my solex, when I hear a rapped out motor flying down my street. I look up, and there goes some rice-rocket hauling ass past my house. Moments later the Cops come roaring down the street chasing the guy. So here's the sh*t. My house is on a residential street with a corner at the front of the driveway. If you don't turn, you'd drive right into my side lawn. Can you guess what's coming? Yup. You guessed it. The first cop made the corner fishtailing, but made it. The second didn't. He lost control of his car, and plowed it passengers side first into the front of my bus doing about 45-50. I just about sh*t a brick! I ran up to his airbag filled squad car, and made sure he was okay as my friend called 911 for an ambulance. So the ambulance showed up, as well as three other cop cars. The officer was taken away to the hospital, while the other cops interigated me about what happened. They were pissed off at me for parking my bus in my driveway. I told them that I wanted their insurance information so I could file a claim. They told me that they didn't have to give it to me since I had obstructed justice (by parking my bus in my driveway?), and would be considered an accomplist of the guy in the rice-rocket!! WTF!?! I recieved a summons about a week later to appear in court to tell a judge what happened. Turns out I was released of all charges (no sh*t). During my appearance, the judge ordered the city to give me insurance information on the cop, and ordered the department to give me a statement that declared that they were completely at fault, and that the accident was in no part caused by my neglegence. I filed my claim, and got the money rfom the state. The only good thing that came of all this... the settlement for me was actually $2700 more than I paid for the bus a month earlier. That is the most F*cked up police incedent I've ever had. True story, no bullsh*t.

Ledbug, just showing up improves your chances of winning because frequently the officer doesn't show up. I think the only other things you can do (since you probably are going to have all of 60 seconds to make your case) is to have some kind of printed data from VW or perhaps a tech manual showing the top speed of that car (presumably it's going to be less than 80) and maybe a sworn statement from a well-known mechanic in the area (or maybe your insurance company??) that the car has not been modified. And also, dress neatly, and address the judge in a respectful way. Think that's stupid? Who knows. Judges are human.

ledbug67, 79supervert is right. the best thing you can do is have proof that your car is not capable of those speeds under it's un-modified condition. and chances are that the cop will not show up for a little speeding ticket. im sure with that info, the judge will let you go.

i was drivin my 71 fastback and got pulled over, he walks up to the car and says " thats a pretty crazy stereo you got in there" i was like....huh? and he shined his flash light into my interior and saw...I HAD AN EMPTY INTERIOR! I have only had the "pleasure" of being pulled over in my 61 bus once in the nearly 100,000 miles that I have driven it. The deputies (one step below real cop) asked it I would mind if they searched the bus. I said "yes I mind, no you can't search my bus" they get all defensive asking if I have something to hide. I tell them that I don't have the time and I feel that they are harassing me because I drive a bus. They ask to search about half a dozen more times. I tell them no each time. They finally give up and tell me to drive slower. I am in a goddamn bus what they fuck do they want reverse? The moral of this story, don't put up with the harassment whether or not you have the goods that they want. (I didn't) this is plain and simple harassment and every time you say yes, you are encouraging them. If they didn't need your permission, they wouldn't ask.

Another fun one was when my brother got pulled over in his bus. The cop was wondering about his license plate. It is license plate number 1. it is a year of manufacture plate that I found at a yard sale many years back. My brother proceeded to lecture the cop on the legality of the plate. If he was going to fly with fake tags, don't you think that the number 1 would be a little too suspicious?

Luckily, the cops haven't thought of any stupid little reason that they could pull me over for yet(knock on wood). I have been pulled over once for speeding, but I deserved that one(going 48 in a 30).

When I was in college, a student came into physics class a little late because he was stopped by the cops on the way to school. He was given a ticket for running a red light. When he started bitching about the fact that there was no way he could stop safely before the light turned red, you could hear the infamous muffled "bullshit" through out the class.

The professor then proceeded to draw a map of the intersection on the chalkboard. He broke out the physics to detail the cars speed and acceleration through the intersection. He defined a point on the map that the car could safely travel through the intersection and a point that the car could safely stop. Between these two points, he defined an area that he calls "dead man's land" and even gave it some technical term. This is the area that the car can neither stop safely before or travel safely through the intersection without exceeding the speed limit.

Apparently the civil engineers are aware of this and try to adjust for it but can't in all situations.

The student (dressed in shirt and tie) took all of this information to court, drawn up on a posterboard with all the physic equations and using exact dimensions from the intersection. The judge was so impressed that the student was using what he had learned in college that he dismissed the case.

I think it depends on what state you live in with the cop showing up to court thing. Here in Cali, i've had to go to court for a speeding ticket in my '63, said i was goin 80, kinda the same situation... I hear that if the case goes to trial and the cop doesn't show it's dismissed, but i had to pay for my "crime". The judge calls you up, you plead, guilty, not guilty or no contest, then you take with a DA or something to find out how much you've got to pay for the infraction...
