10c method is five degrees too far retarded when used on a 1.9L. I would recommending setting your timing at 28° BTDC @3800+ rpm, hoses off and plugged. This should give you about 5 more degrees than you are running now. |
That doesn't make sense. 10c recommends 40° BTDC. You're recommending 28° BTDC. 28° BTDC is 12° more retarded than 40° BTDC. _________________ I am a high-functioning autistic into VW diesels and Vanagons along with other things that are unrelated to this site. |

10c is recommending a range of

33-41 degrees total advance for the 1.9 wbx, i.e. "mid-high 30's total advance". |
which would give a mid range of 37°. He is missing the initial timing of 5° BTDC [5°ATDC -(-10°retard)].
My method gives a timing of 5° + 23° + 14° = 42° using the mid range for all data, but I firmly believe it is best to set the timing with the vacuum hoses disconnected as the vacuum can is often leaky or out of spec, so setting the timing at 28° BTDC @3800 rpm with the hoses removed and plugged is best and is 5° more than 10c is recommending. |

I see what you're saying. Thanks for the explanation. _________________ I am a high-functioning autistic into VW diesels and Vanagons along with other things that are unrelated to this site. |
