Here’s a 74 bug what’s it worth? Dents rust and all, drives ok though.

So would most in the real world- like the guy at the gas station that offered me 30k, three things he said my car had going for it 1. it hasn't been converted like most VW snobs insist on some of whom in this thread, 2. one family car since new and my dad's insistence on keeping every service record and receipt (and even the window sticker) and 3. always been garage kept, still the original floor pans and heater channels in fantastic shape. He REALLY wanted it, and was willing to pay a premium, I actually discussed with him for a couple minutes about how it was such a shame the autostick was a great idea but VW snobfest circles killed it with their uppity attitude and lazy approach to learning to work on them.
Makes you wonder just how knowledgable these so called experts are in this thread _________________ I'm the humblest guy on this board.

That is the vehicle in the $4k-$6k range imo. Depending on the dents, rust, and mechanical condition determines which end of the estimate. From what I’m seeing on FB market place locally, the asking price would likely be about $8k-$12k. |

In reality they're not worth much, like any other cult type vehicle it's value is predicated on how much a person is willing to pay.
Look at old "anything" scooter, bicycle, I read just yesterday Michael Jordan first air Jordans sold at Sotheby's auction, $560,000.. cause his feet wear them.. nice |

Thought you said the offer was $34K

Yes in fact I just got offered $34k for it at the gas station this afternoon.
But, I turned it down- too much sentimental attachment + I am not hurting for cash. |
throwing random numbers out doesn't help us gauge the market...
any ideas where we can find ACTUAL SALE prices of autosticks??
I'm restoring a '73 SB autostick currently for a gentleman and am curious if he has a shot of coming out ahead some day..... |

That's what he heard.
In all actuality the guy probably said "Three to four thousand".

That would be a possibility if not for the fact that he offered 25k first then when I declined he went up to 34k because as he put it "it's an original unmolested autostick- I have to have it." I know it runs right in the face of your campaign against the autostick--sorry what can I say. _________________ I'm the humblest guy on this board.

In my opinion, and rust free beetle with a clean title, even gutted and without an engine, trans, interior, is worth minimum $3000-3500 with an additional premium if '67 earlier. (super beetles and autosticks excluded)
I wouldn't even consider selling a used engine/ trans running, drivable, solid, decent '68+ for under $7500 these days... |
I agree with this guy, someone buy my running 67 for 4k. |

Latest “unique” ad is a 71 Westy with no windshield, no motor/trans for $10k. |

Some idiot will get a bank loan, and buy it for 8k and think they got a deal. |
I’m really curious if something like that happens. One of my personal vehicles I may be willing to part with is a 100% complete, non-running, fairly rusty 71 Westy. If they are getting $8k, I shouldn’t have an issue getting $12k? In all reality, I think the $10k Bus is maybe a $1k Bus, and mine maybe a $1500 one. Am I that far before 2010 on Bay pricing? |

Put the 71 westy on FB marketplace for 2 weeks. You never know what might happen. _________________ Parts for sale https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/search.php?username=APPLEGREENVW

Last week I heard a guy on here was offered 34k for a '69 autostick. |
If it was a low mileage time capsule, I could see that. An owner of a local auto auction sold a 17 mile 79 Vert for $35k in the late 90’s. |
I could be persuaded to put out that kind of money for an absolutely mint late convertible but an auto stick? Only if it was 100% very low mile capsule in perfect condition and there was documented proof that it was owned and driven by Elvis Presley!
Just because it is rare or low production numbers does not make it valuable. A '62 Rambler Classic 4 door Wagon with a 6 cylinder and 3 on the tree would be rare these days but you would be hard pressed to find a buyer at any price. Another case in point is a '70 411 Squareback (not many of them imported) I picked up in running order 8 years ago for $250. I tried a year ago on a local VW site to sell it and couldn't even get interest as a parts car! |
The last time I saw a type 4 for sale local for $250, was over 20 years ago. _________________ Parts for sale https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/search.php?username=APPLEGREENVW

I’m gonna put this to the test. I put up a 74 bug for sale today along with a 63. We will see if there is interest. Neither is priced high and I’ll make a package deal for both. |

If you’re truly trying to sell it, ask a sane price.
For a true experiment, I would list it at 400% of what you think it’s worth. Everyone else seems to be doing that. |
