i agree, and hope i didnt come across douche-baggy like. honest question. saw a guy driving a 356 SC this weekend down near Gardnerville.. while glad he's driving it , it just took me back to that ad and had me thinking how painfully expensive a rebuild would be. _________________ If you have any questions about Forged ICON 4032 VW pistons just shoot me a line. |

The reason that mangled half-a-fan-shroud is $21.5K is because it's from JAMES DEAN's car, don't ya know?
How else could it have gotten so torn up? _________________ Bus Motor Build

THANK YOU for the laughs .
I recently gave away a complete engine fully dressed, it was built up then let sit in a garage for decades before I found it, it was stuck from sitting and had new early production Kadrons on it, if I thought anyone would want it I'da posted it here for $250 .
The heavily corroded case was the topper . _________________ -Nate

When posting an ad for a "Polished Dry Sump engine." It's really a good idea to post the best pictures that you can produce.
At an asking price of $5500, this ad clearly misses the mark.

Ok, so what is the verdict now on the right place to advertise stock parts? In Performance/Engine (the "Rules" say it is for Performance OR engine parts) or just in General Parts? |

If it's full engines or specific engine parts like cranks I would definitely post in Engines but if it's common stuff like engine tin, fuel hose, spark plugs, coils, etc. I'd do General.
I agree it's sort of confusing and I have had people report "stock" stuff posted in the Engines section in the past. _________________ How to Post Photos

And many folks post common/stock engine issues/questions in Performance/Engines/Transmissions and apparently don't interpret that as Performance Engines Performance Transmissions. I interpret the category as that. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. The '71 now has the 1835 engine, swapped from the '70. Guilty as charged.
This is because of the title, it says Performance/Engines/Transmissions. That to me is a thread for Performance AND/OR Engines AND/OR Transmissions. Therefore to me it is all inclusive.
Now if the title was Performance engines and transmissions that would mean it is exclusively a performance thread, not stock! There is no general thread for general questions so if we want to tap into a wider range of experience base we would have to ask our question in multiple threads... which by the way... is against site rules...
It appears that I am not the only one confused about this... _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old!

It's probably better to post a lot of stock questions here unless it's something specific to a particular model or early 36hp/40hp engine.
I mean all the engine people are reading this Forum and I'm sure the performance people know just as much or maybe more about stock engines.
Example off the top of my head:
If you're asking about what "correct" generator to use on a '54 Beetle engine then Oval would make sense but if you are asking about how to lap valves, this section makes more sense. _________________ How to Post Photos
