I finally got the generator light to STFU.

I pulled the voltage regulator and replaced it with a new solid state one from WW. When doing so I also wrapped the generator wires with electrical tape because their insulation was thread bare. Put everything back together and the light was still on with the engine running.

However, I took it for a drive to the store any way. On the way back home, the red light sputtered out.

Everything seems to be fine. Bulb still lights up with ignition clicked to 'on'.
