Let’s be honest, those poles are kind of fucked. It’s not surface rust. But hey: dude they’re original and straight. That’s enough. No shade. |
^^Have you guys owned one of these Westy tents and poles?
The poles look fine other than the bent threaded end on the bumper connection from what I can see..
These poles are super heavy duty steel, and they were not primed originally, just painted with black laquer. All of the poles I have ever looked at get surface rust where the paint chips off (inevitably). This is just mild surface rust. Nothing here looks 'fucked'! _________________ Brandon |

Yes, that's pretty normal looking for old poles to me.
Jim EG - Don't do anything to them or paint them, let a new owner decide. _________________ How to Post Photos

That is a great looking setup, bus and tent. Looks like you even have the extension poles for the front flap with that one, very cool.
I just thought 'fucked' was a bit dramatic for the description, nothing personal! _________________ Brandon |

| I had a '61 for a brief while. I was the first one to erect the tent. It was hard not to chip the poles. |

My poles were all surface rusty when I got them. They had been burned in a fire. My dad cleaned them up with a wire wheel and repainted them in black laquer with no primer like original. They looked like new. I contemplated individually wrapping each one for a minute, then just threw them all together into the bag. I have used them at least a dozen times since, and they have plenty of nicks and scratches now. _________________ Brandon |
