talk about someone "blazing past"... buddy of mine was down in Texas , on the interstate in his C8 corvette, says he was doing 75... and got rear ended by someone in e Mercedes. he was hit hard enough that it drove him into the concrete barrier and about tore the rear of the C8 off.

An interesting thing happens in forums where everyone starts parroting the same thing and "common knowledge" takes over.
Most experts aren't.

The statute has run out so the story can be told:

Years ago we used to commute +/- 350 miles from Northern Vermont to NYC. We had an Olds Cutlass with a small V8. We'd leave around midnight. The needle on the speedometer disappeared behind the plastic. We generally didn't see it again until we stopped for gas.

Somewhere in southern Connecticut on I-95, the Porsches would catch up to us. There were two of them, both whale tails, both with diplomatic plates. They were on us as soon as we saw their headlights and gone just as quick.

Come to think of it my brother's girlfriend got popped in her 911 at 145mph in Montreal in the middle of the night. She has two Porsches, a Cayenne for hauling the kiddies to soccer and her 911 to annoy the Mounties.

1980 when you got a ticket entering Will Rogers Turnpike entering and turned it in to a human when exiting to pay.
73 Torino with transplanted 427 FE entered the turnpike at Tulsa at 1:05AM and got to the exit booth at the MO line at 1:40AM.
Guy in the exit booth looked at the time stamp, smiled, and said sorry boys but only 3rd place this month.

You guys were correct. The issue is poor-install/external rattles, NOT the subaru engine itself.

I managed to locate and mitigate a couple of the worst offenders and had a MUCH more enjoyable trip (4 hours each way) this past weekend. The WORST offender was a coolant pipe that could just barely contact the chassis. This was vibrating and making the most concerning noise at "cruising" RPMs.

I will continue to improve, clean up, and improve the swap. I am sure there is till a lot that can be done to make this bus quieter and smoother.
