hey Robbie, nice going..
one thing to note and you may already be there. but you will WANT a metal heat shield to interrupt the glowing infra red heat from shining on the engine lid..
that turbo and header WILL glow a nice bright red on the hills and interstate runs..

Good idea! I just got it running 2 weeks ago, but now I'm redoing all the brakes,CVS, hoses etc! So no real miles on it yet but that's a good tip! I don't need any fires! _________________ 52' Split

Thanks man! Here's a few more photos the way I did things. I used a a4 intercooler. I'm still going to either add a scoop to direct air, or bolt on 4 6" fans. Once I get some more miles on it and log IT temps, I'll make my decision.

love seeing another AEB DIY 1.8T out there.. it's an underdog in the swap game..
yer also going to want to get that tailpipe to exit out from under the van.. that'll heat up (and fume) the compartment in traffic..
also log your IATs and I don't think (IMHO) that you're going to be happy with an air/air intercooler there.. but that's all personal and subjective what makes one person happy and another not..
but I run an Air/water exchanger. sure more complicated but keeps my IATs very stable and never more than 30* over ambient.
had a friend with air/air and fans would heat soak on longer hills and occasionally go into a limp mode. _________________

Ya it's really in r&d mode right now. I might end up switching to a PWR water to air like I have in my bug, but time will tell! And, this one was free sooo... haha _________________ 52' Split

Yeah, I hear ya. When I drove the van to a recent gtg, I told everyone it was in Beta-mode. That helps explain away all the dangling wires and instrument pod that's just resting in place _________________ Casey--

Hahaha exactly. I literally had to replace everything that could/did wear out on this westy. Brakes, brake hoses, coolant/heater hose, slave cylinder, front heater fan, CVS, etc so it's been a long month... but I took your advice and just extended the exhaust tip another foot with some SS I had laying around.
