Whats with the wing window? Or is that some kind of air deflector?

It's a "piano hinge" - slang for 1952 and earlier Bus vent wing windows. _________________ Blog website:www.austrosplit.com

Here are some more pics of the "Weltexpress-Bus":
At IAA Frankfurt(?!) or Autosalon Berlin(?!) in 1951:
on this pic you can't see the bus, but the pic has been taken at the same location:
Other pics - from the travel:

Nice! Cool to have all the photos in one place.
Just need a rear shot now. _________________ 1951 Samba 20-017894

I'll keep my eyes open - maybe i'll find one.
Yeah, it's nice to have all pics together here, but i just found them by accident.
Currently i am working on one (or some) new topic(s) about coach built barndoor buses (Kohlruss & more). I found a lot of great pics that have been posted into this thread by paella, djfordmanjack and many others.
I thought that it would also be nice to collect them in a whole new topic to have all information there.
For example, in this "Barndoor Junkie - Vintage Picture" topic you have to search quite long to find the exact Kohlruss pic you wanted to talk about..
I will finish soon, hope you'll like it _________________ Blog website:www.austrosplit.com

this is why i often try to find out additional detail about the pictures posted. Places in germany i am pretty good at, but unfortunately there is not always a a whole lot of detail that would help tag and ultimately search and find the pictures. I have thought about tagging the pics with the license plates _________________ regards

Hmm. The flags don't match. Could they have painted over them, or was there more than one bus? _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

This is why I created this page of period pictures along with a search engine.... And began to add all the photos of this topic attached to keywords :
http://www.airmapp.com/vintagephotos
Just type in "kohlruss" and you will find them all.
If you search for a photo of busses with roof rack.... try to type rack or roofrack.
If you remember for example there is snow in the picture or wathever is remarquable, like a trailer, a chrome bumpers, a family...etc.... then you can find it within a second |

More then one bus is cool!
But you would have thought they went in convoy. Not to different countries!
Maybe they were trying to visit every country? Or every vw export country? _________________ 1951 Samba 20-017894
