My name is Terry, I'm a 29 y/o paramedic in Central Ohio. I have a busted old sand rail I bought for 1800. I've been slowly getting it together since February. It's going to be a daily driver with weekend hobby abuse for mudding, hill climbing, and camping. I've replaced almost every frame bushing known to buggydom at this point, and the rail should be complete very soon. I'm just trying to figure out how to heat the intake manifold, and get a warm air intake so it'll be usuable year round.

Well, I've never posted in this thread before. Here it goes.

I'm Phil. Im 20, 21 in december. I got the name of "The Phil" back in my sophomore year in my J.R.O.T.C class and it stuck. I used to work in an auto shop, "Vintage Exotics" doing body work on vintage race cars(91 shelby can am, 68 vert vette, and a 69.) i quit recently, just shortly after the owner bought some new cars. I currently am a bouncer at a local bar/club scene for the University of Arizona. I get to look at, and talk to all of the cute college babes all night long haha. Oh, im also single. lifes wonderful when you're single, especially after getting out of a relationshit. I'm a proud owner of a wonderful true southern 66 AZ baja for 2 years now, and counting.

as far as my daddy goes, well: hes a machinist by trade (writing CNC code, running machine, and designs on solid works). Precision metal fabricator. welder(Titanium, Magnesium, Aluminum, and Steel. Can use every welder, and can easily be certified for all welders at aircraft grade). Aerospace engineer (helped design worlds smallest functioning turbine about 10 years ago.) Recently hes been doing design engineering. and he also does carbon fiber composite work for shuttles. I tell you the man is too smart for his own damned good.

My name's Cotton Fleming, I'm 17, and got into VW's about 2 weeks before i got my first car, a '68 Baja Bug. Now I'm hooked. I believe I have the only Baja in West Texas, but would love to know if there are any others out there! Car was mostly complete when I got it, and have added the bits and pieces. Underbody LED, custom taillights, interior LED kit, Sirius Radio, Electronic Ignition with racing wires, etc. Decently mechanical, but would love advice on how to make my 1600cc get up and go a bit faster!

I'm Jordan, but everybody calls me Spots. I'm a 23 yr old Former Marine, I got out Jan. 21st 2012. I work in a VW hot rod shop everyday, and wrench on my own junk at night. I work at the speed shop in Harriman, TN. I've been wrenching on all kinds of stuff since I was 6 when I got my first Honda fourwheeler, then my first car (76 Jeep Cherokee on 35" tires) at 13. Went through Auto shop at my high school, then finished it early and graduated from the Tennessee Tech college at Jacksboro with my certification in Auto Mechanics, and 7 ASE certs. I was a CH-46 Helicopter engine mechanic in the Marines, so wrenching is all I know. Right now I'm in the middle of my buggy rebuild, as you can see below. Anyways, nice to meet you guys

Btw my dad is a heavy equipment operator by trade, but he can do a lil of everything.

My name is Jon, I am 25 years old, and currently live in Northern Utah. I got into vw's last year when I bought a sandrail frame. the frame has slowly turned into a decent sandrail and a never ending project. I'm looking for people in the cache valley area that might want to start a club... pm me if you are interested.

Hey everyone, I'm James. Been playing with vws for about 20yrs now.
Grew up in a 73 std the folks bought new and a 72 square used. My first love was a 69 btl and over the years have owned a few others. Came here looking to study building a Baja. Lurked around the street forums here, STFU and Germanlook.net.
After buying the missus a Jeep Grand Wagoneer I got the itch to build a Baja.
Got a tow rig, might as well Smile
Moved from Charlotte NC in '96 to Chattanooga TN then to Lookout Mtn GA. I love it here.
Painter by trade. Started as an automotive painter, which I enjoy, apprenticed to tattoo and worked 8+yrs publicly in a licensed gallery. Decided I really don't like ppl and started painting again. Currently painting furniture and cabinets in a custom shop.My boss let me talk him into a 914, so I will be here there and yonder. Thanks to Everett for this forum and every one that contributes

Howdy,

I'm Nick, I'm 23 years old. As I grew up we had a sand rail buggy sitting in my back yard that never ran, I use to sit in the seat and act like I was driving it, last year I completely tore it apart and rebuilt it. It is now street legal and I drive it almost every weekend. I live in Marshall Texas, but if you are from around here most likely you'll see me driving it down the back roads of Harleton Tx, where I was raised. I take my buggy to car shows and have a pretty good time.

I'm a IT Tech for Select Energy Services in the ETXNLA region. My Dad is a coal miner.

Hey,

My name is Dan....but all my friends just call me Zink. Born in the heart of Detroit in 1962...moved to the wilds of Michigan in 1976...Got started in the VW hobby around 1981. My best friends dad owned a VW repair shop one town away from mine. He and I became buddies and were always getting in trouble and his dad was always chewing our rear ends about hanging around. We were given an ultimatum....make ourselves useful or find somewhere else to hang.

We started doing the easy stuff on the bugs, tune ups, oil changes etc. and it went from there.

They were also heavily into racing Formula Vee's so I got to crew at a lot of races in the late 80's early 90's.

I've owned (3) Bugs, 1 bay window bus, 1 split window bus, a squareback and the one I've owned the longest a 65 Notchback.

Along with the notch we have 2 sandrails.

Been with the same woman for 23 years...happily married for 15...(2) daughters a seven year old and a 2 1/2 month old....

And for anyone doing the math - yep - I'm 50 and I have a 2 1/2 month old..

They keep me young....

I'm the Sales Manager for a (3) storefront HVAC company as well as being their F&I guy, the IT guy...and whatever else they throw at me.

Daddy was a Boilermaker.

Dan

I'm David from Fayetteville, NC. I'm 39 and am self employed as a property manager.

I recently acquired a sand rail through a trade on Craigslist. Growing up I always liked them, but this is my first time actually owning a VW.

When I Googled sand rail it sent me here. I have lurked here some and it just made sense to join. I'm looking forward to learning about what to do and hopefully not being the poster child of what not to do. If your gonna be dumb you better be tough. We'll see...

I posted in HBB off road but I'll post again here.

I am from the Bitterroot valley in Montana (hopefully someone will know where I am LOL).I just wanted to say hello to everyone here. I have been lurking/reading ALOT lately. I have a sand rail/ dune buddy/ mountain buggy (which ever you'd like to call it) that I have "inherited". It generally runs great, but I am wanting to upgrade some things, and this forum has been an invaluable resource for me.

My boyfriend also has one we just picked up about 2 months ago. With ALOT of help from my brothers it had a complete rebuild and running in about 6 weeks just in time for a big mud run.

My mom has what we call a stump jumper buggy (shorter then a rail)
One brother has another stump jumper, and the other brother has a corvair rail.

Annnnnddd. My mom is in the process of building a rail of her own.

So we have a couple buggies, and we all have used this forum for help!

Here's an image (hopefully I uploaded it right) of 4 of the buggies. (The green one is mine, my mom's "stump jumper", my brothers "stump jumper" and my other brothers corvair buggy. )
