Amazing. Hardcore of a vintage VW nut as I am, had I seen that large rear window and the orange color from a distance I never would have given it a second look, I would have just written it off as a 70s Beetle hack job. _________________ John Henry

Same, and at that, it I think the only huge detail that gave it away would have been the squared off corners on the decklid and on the hood. I'm sure there are more that the keen eyed pre-KdF enthusiast could pick out, but those were the only huge details I ever picked up..Mind you I own a 73 and don't know much about early, especially pre-KdF beetles. _________________ PNW Dub Folk & Kitsap dub Folk (KdF)

SO right -on you are with that observation PatterBon.
I wonder how many VWs went to the crusher that way
Alright, that being said, I know my 2011 Halloween costume will be a VW38 going incognito as a fat chick. Relying on peoples' lax attention to detail (and limited attention span) I figure no one will "SEE" me he he he...

The door hinges were exclusive to the prototype being that they were a five finger style unlike the later 3 finger style.
Also the provision for the license plate light was exclusive to the prototype cars. The panel was similar in later cars up to 49 for the license plate but only the prototype cars had the extra raised area for the license light as well. |

On sunday, I have seen the runningboards Mika build. Not only in my opinium, they are the best replications of the boards I have ever seen. Gratulations to Mika for that good quality. Finland - 12 points! |

Are you part of the fab crew Björn? Or are you just a good friend of Christians? You're lucky to have personal access to this car! Now that the bumpers are done, is it getting ready for its nice coat of black? _________________ PNW Dub Folk & Kitsap dub Folk (KdF)

Hi,
no Björn is not working on the 38 but he helping us to find parts , pics and information for the car and he is also a good friend and so he has accces to the 38 and our museum.
If everything works well the 38 will go tomorrow to the painter. Matthias is now doing all the small stuff - like here fitting the rubbers for the hoods to the car. These rubbers were just on the very early cars ( vw30 , 38 and 39 ).
Our friend Jacek Krajewski made a form just to produce 3 sets of these rubbers !
Here you see the form and were they were on the car.

I can imagen that is must be a tough for the painter
on how smooth he should prep the car before paint.
It was (and still is) a coachbuilt car and back in the days
it was a testmodel so I asume it didn't have a mirrorstraight finish. _________________ www.volksfahrer.nl

On the contrary, these were display cars as well, I think the pictures show it had quite a nice shine. Labour was cheap in those days, and wet sanding was the way to go with nitro. _________________ 1973 1303S w sunroof Click to view image
