If you do the pan swap as you describe, which has been my intent for my project, what are the title / DMV implications? |
This is very simple on most all VWs up to 1968 due to the fact they only have a small badge on the body with the vin. Simply remove it and then the only vin is on the pan. You then register by the year of the pan. If it is later then 68, you'll need to remove the door jam sticker and the dash vin plate and replace it with the one that matched the pan. If there are any issues fill out the forms for what they calll a re-bodied car... _________________ Kevin "Coolrydes" Zagar

| Kevin, this has probably been answered already, but on the rear set up, are the torsion bars still used? |
Nope, we get rid of the torsion bars, since the coil overs can be tuned 100 times better. _________________ Kevin "Coolrydes" Zagar

Kevin,
I was just browsing your Samba gallery.
Did you save this headliner for a museum exhibit?
Also,
You have a beautiful facility. Is all that space for Mendeola?

Actualy we offered to box it up for Kathleen Icoiboni's super bad ass and soon to become even more bad ass Manxter..... Tom and Kathleen build some super nice home built rides.....
Also,
You have a beautiful facility. Is all that space for Mendeola? Yes, there is around 28,000 square feet for transaxles, and another 24,000 square feet for signature motors....

You can use a standard super beetle colum, however we use a custom built flamingriver unit in most all applications. _________________ Kevin "Coolrydes" Zagar

Well, yes. Kevin offered me that beautiful shag carpeting for the Manxter. After studying the pictures, I felt the color wasn't the right shade.... LOL.
I think you're right about it being a museum piece.

My version, no sway bar yet, but similar. Mine is only bolt on.
I've been spending a lot of time on the rear end, then sways front and rear to match. I need a front sway badly as it grips up so well roll becomes an issue!
Great minds, keep it coming, looking really great.

Nice work, However I see a few design issues. If you want to email me I would be happy to give you some tips as some of the issues we found through testing. _________________ Kevin "Coolrydes" Zagar

Back to the steering column.
What modifications to the body are required for the a-arm front end on a standard (65) beetle? Does the kit come with all the parts to connect the rack/pinion to the column? Is there a universal joint and shaft provided?

Steve,
Like the disc brake diversity and needs of the differnt people out there we have desided to not include a replacement steering colum. However it can be ordered through us. We can also supply the steering colum to rack connection link.
We have already seen super beetle steering colums and u-joint shafts used with our front end in beetle and ghia applications _________________ Kevin "Coolrydes" Zagar

Wow, that's cool. That car looks bad ass as well-- nice job.
I was gonna make a joke about you guys turning these things into Spec Miatas, but it's very fine work you're doing and it gets nothing but praise. |

Hey Jason.....very sweet car. I like it a lot. Have you put down any numbers yet on it?? 1/8, 1/4, skid pad??
I own the Speedwell Oval and Kevin (the builder) and I are gearing up for putting some numbers down over the next 30 days. Would be interesting to see some comparisons. _________________ "Every day above ground is a good day.....keep it all in perspective!"
