Is the cargo door handle pointed up in that photo? |
...Thanks for posting those pics Ev!! the door handle looks weird in that picture, yes... if it's pointed upwards, there's definitly something wrong with it, but maybe it's something they hung up on the handle while they're washing the old Bus?? ...no idea! |

my great grandfather's BD where he, his wife, and their youngest doughter have travelled from Maastricht(Holland) to NewZeeland, the youngest doughter has stayed in New Zeeland 2, so my grand dad was the onlyone of the 7 that stayed in Holland..
I am now trying to find the vin-number of it, we have asked my grandfather's brother harry for some information and old pictures, and he will let us know everything that he knows or everything that he finds about it as soon as possible...
I wonder if the bus still somewhere in a barn or something, or in a wood, waiting to be found...

here are some pics from a news paper; the evening post, Friday, 29, 1955
and a picture after the trip when they was back in Holland, my grand mother, my uncle, my dad, and I think the little girl in the van was the daughter of a shop keeper there, are on the picture.

hello barnelicious, first of all, those little 'newspapers' were ot from '96 but 1998, 12 issues for the 50th birthday of VW - Belgium ( 48-98 ) ...the barndoor drawing is from the very first belgian 'catalogue', it appaered in french and flemish, I have it somewhere upstairs, and yes, it's from 1950! ...but if you go to this link on thesamba, you can find the whole brochure too!!

...Sorry, you were both right about that picture!! I tought you talked about the barndoor drawing, not photo 4... yes, photo 4 is NOT a '50 as mentioned in that newspaper, but that's because the people just made these papers for D'Ieteren with their help (archiv) and old material, but obviously not enough research done !! (the bus in ph. 4 is a late '52-early '53) |

I'm guessing it's a Dutch Army bus? I'm going by the uniform. Like a few counties just after the Second World War the Dutch adopted the British battledress style khaki uniform and '37 patt webbing, which this guy is wearing. _________________ Gaffa Tape Tourist - Touring Europe at 45mph

The strange thing is that the numberplate looks yellow, and yellow plates came around 1980. _________________ www.NEDERBUGS.NL |
