| PT, what was the deal with the 23 window barn, that was hacked up? Was it for sale? Where was it? I am looking to build a resto custom barndoor bus, not picky of style, but would like to find one similar to that one from ebay. |

The condition of the reardecklid (barndoor) hinge, they rust out pretty easely and are a bitch to repair.
Also check the panel above the tranny where the chassis# is stamped in, the number is located very low and might be dammaged by rust what can give problems when you want to register the bus.(# located in panel abouve the tranny)
Check out the rearcorners, they are barndoor only as they have pressings for the reflectors, busses until late 52' only had one reflector on the left side, other corner is smooth.
The doglegs are the usual places where rust is but barndoor doglegs are different than later ones as the curve is different, very hard to get them when they need to be replaced...
The rear lower vents must have 8 louvers 350mm long, untill chassis# 20-02817 the cargo had no vents, from # 20-02818 till 20-015399 the cargo vents where 175 mm long and from 20-015400 till 20-117901 (last barndoor) they where 350mm long.
You can find more very usefull details about barndoors and great pics at the following link, great Danisch barndoorside in Englisch!

Good luck and keep us posted!!!

Well- after an 8 hr. drive (one way) I found the yard that had the the Barndoor Panel (a 53 or 54) I believe- couldn't read the VIN #'s. It sits in a field with at least 3 other Barndoors. It was quite a sight, to see pre-60 logo'd panels (at least 6), at least 8 split-window kombis, 3 split-window single cabs, and if my count was correct 8 oval window bugs(hardtops). Unfortunently- most has been sitting there for so long that the bottom 4" on all these are totally gone-
I have pics(post them tomorrow) just to bring tears to everyones eyes. Also, to get some honest feedback re: the panel- is it worth saving?, is it too far gone? Remember- this is far from a California vehicle-
Lemme know your thoughts- (after pics are up)

| Well- heres the kicker- I can probably get it for $1000.00 US , and pursuade the PO that includes a nice decklid (which are stored in a barn-) an engine, rear end, and anything else I can cut off the others to repair the panel. |

Well, what are you waithing for???????
Go for it before another runs with it.
i maen 1G is almost nothing for this bus with the parts you get wit it!!!
Good advice: reair the rust, put in a 2.4 type 4 engine, discbrakes in the front, norrawod beam and slammed on sprintstars, dont mind the faded paint and surface rust and drive it as is, it will be a showstopper, believe me ;-)
I'm planning on doing this on my 52' panel, unfortenly the previous owner sandblasted the thing so I dont have the nice patine like the bus you are able to buy, so i will have to sand the fresh paint, ad some paintstripper in the neccesary locations likr raingutters etc. and than let it stand outside in the bad rainy weather we have overhere most of the year to have it looking like shit ;-)
Go for it Paul!!!

LOL......nice twisting of the arm Peter-
surface rust is only waht I can wish for- the rockers are held on with what I think are 2x4's carrage bolted throu- plus the front drivers door pillar is seperated from the nose- seems to be a common problem w/ all those in the yard-
where are you from - UK? |

I need to do some research before I jump into something I may regret- I checked out the site you posted- very kool. Also, got a few messages from Rikki (UK) re: these- and wanting to add the #'s to his registary- Also, found there is a guy 20 mins from there- who offered up his time to gather more info- for me- |
