Today, in Redondo Beach on Palos Verdes Drive. A mango standard with some really awesome patina. Had what looked like a 1/3 roof rack. I was driving my '67 (red and beige/gray) and caught a glimpse in my rear view mirror before he turned down another street and disappeared. Very cool bus. _________________ '56 Sunroof Kombi

I wish I saw more split window busses on the road. Here in Utah you don't see too many.
There is an early double cab, which is really ratty that a co-worker of mine drives, and there is the single cab which my mechanic drives.
Other than those two, and my 11 window I haven't actually seen a split window bus on the road in a LONG time. Its probably been a year or so. |
There are actually quite a number of us bus drivers here in the Salt Lake Valley, I'm surprised that you have'nt run into some of us. Most of us don't drive them as much in the winter... Road salt kills busses. |

| Anyone watch the Phineas and Ferbe disney cartoon? They had the villiam wearing lederhosen (think alpine leather shorts with suspenders) and driving a split VW truck. The split window bus in Veggie Tales Jonah movie is very prominent. Seen beetles in The Incredibles and Veggie Tales. We watch alot of cartoons. |

Both in Granada Hills Ca. - Earlier this week, I saw a white DC get off the 118 freeway at Balboa Blvd. Yesterday, while driving home, I saw a white single cab with plywood sitting vertically in the back (extending the gates). Two guys were driving it. I presume they were using it for work.
So after the kids were in bed, I got into the garage to get some work done on mine. Jealousy can be a strong motivator _________________ --Mike--

It was a sad night last night for me. The VW bus guys from Vegas got nocked off of Bullrun. Was anybody else following that? I haven't read anything on here about it. _________________ 53 Hatch Barndoor

Late Saturday night (April 4th) in Las Vegas behind the Hard Rock Hotel. Somebody was loading a barndoor onto a trailer. I watched it from my Hard Rock Hotel room window. There was a hot rod show there earlier that day. The barndoor was missing its decklid. _________________ '56 Sunroof Kombi

I-10 5 pm westbound outside of Cathedral city near Palm Springs
I would have taken more but when the driver slowed from 65 to 50 in a hurry so I kept going. Not to shabby for cell phone pics while driving at 70 mph. and they don't want us to talk on cell phones because that's unsafe

I'm always on the look out for type II's. Sometimes I get a photo, sometimes not. Here are a few randoms and some shots of my 1966 Sundial Camper.
Recent sightings:
Salt Lake City, Sugarland neighborhood, Older mango & single cab in the yard and a bay on the street.
San Diego, Nimitz Blvd in Point Loma. Maroon and white standard. Sometimes under a cover. Rarely moved.
Santa Barbara, Powder blue and white Bible Quotes standard.
Santa Barbara, I know it's a bus, covered with paper mache'
Here a link to some photos of my bus and others Iv'e seen recently.
