Here is a better pic of that wire mentioned above. I have a lot of tracing wires to do. The PO just slapped it together enough to make it run. I do have a printed copy of the wiring diagram. The alligator clip is really stupid.... I don't know that I will see the PO again, but he does deserve a good slap. The story was a husband and wife had this bus and had owned if since they bought it in '79, he had bought the new engine and passed away before he could install it. The guy I got it from had his guy install it and it has sat for the last 7 years on a lot. Obviously this guy has no clue what he was doing or just didn't care. There is a carburetor riser with port I can purchase to be able to hook up the brake booster since there is not a port to hook it up to right now.

You can drill and tap a hole for a fitting in the intake manifold below the carburettor and connect the brake booster hose there . No need to buy a new manifold part, easier to source a fitting.

The vacuum advance port from the carburettor to the distributor should be just beside the idle mixture screw on the carburettor body.

Figured it out! The black wire is suposed
to go to the coil, the other is to the oil pressure switch!

I am also working on replacing my alternator, wiring harness, external voltage regulator and cooling boot. I'm concerned about frying the wiring harness as I watched bckyrdwizkids video on Youtube. My old alternator had this little rectangle piece, unsure of the material as part of it broke off, kind of felt like dried up wax paper, under one of the nuts. You can see some of it left in the photo of the alternator. The new one I ordered from Heritage doesn't show that piece. bckyrdwizkids video mentions the necessity of creating space between the screws and back plate to reduce possibilities of fire. Not sure what this item is, if I need to buy it or if the new alternator doesn't get as hot as the old one.

you really need to be careful of the stud length because it can short out to the backplane. There are many threads here on TheSamba regarding that problem when replacing the alternator.
