Parts given to him, or parts that he did not pay what he owed?
for instance, I have given people parts to make a car better. They sold the car. I don't feel bad, the car needed the parts more than my garage... and in turn later they have been generous when I needed something
Not paying money owed is another story and not cool at all

yeah it sucks when people do that. I remember someone getting a bro price on real heart fuchs for his car (before the repops), then turning around and selling the car top dollar. Kicked out the club and eventually got out of VW's entirely because he lost his network of friends after that

First Jason, you don't know the slightest about this situation so I'd suggest that you do what a grown man does and not comment on others people's business. Especially when I was told that you borrowed way more money from him than "you ever had the intent or means to pay back." ....notice the quotations?
For others, anyone that knows me knows that I don't burn ANYONE. The entire time I was building this car, Gizmo helped me; in most ways to the demise of our "friendship." In a nutshell, I'd ask about a part, he'd show me that he had 20 of these parts, I'd ask how much, and he'd say something like, "I'll give you a good deal." There are two problems with that: a good deal doesn't mean that I can afford it, and I don't necessarily need to be purchasing parts of that someone else things I need, more parts along the lines of what my budget was. I gave him money regularly. I gave him more money more frequently than he requested it. The issue arose when the tally that was being kept was not communicated with me as far as price were concerned, and not even given to me until after the car was sold for over a year.
I paid handsomely for parts. If there was an expectation outside of what I paid, that should have been communicated in a timely manner. I'm not disputing the fact that Bob was extremely generous. If you read the magazine article, it is riddled with my thanks for his generosity. That being said, I did not expect anything for free....unlike Bob's "Achilles Heel."
I do acknowledge the fact that there is a variance in what I paid, and what I got. If you ask Bob, he will truthfully tell you that I asked him on numerous occasions for what that variance was. For over a year. Then, all of a sudden, the prices that we negotiated on a few bits changed drastically, and the dash pad that I paid him $700 for, all of a sudden had a value of $1,000. Regardless of what the market value was at the time he finally decided to tally the bits, I would never have agreed to paying that much money.
Jack... that car had some heater boxes on it from you. When you said you had a pair, I didn't even attempt to negotiate a price with you. I paid you what you were asking, before I even received the heater boxes. If you want to comment, you should comment on the dealings that you and I had together. Not cool |

Yeah. I knew you were going to say it's not my business. And to a certain degree you are right. But when we all have a hand in it as well as discussions before the fact making a lot of us involved behind the scenes - then it makes it part of our business. To that is why I only said what I said and nothing more as it will be Bob's place to do so.
The man still has issue with it to this day. Mostly because the car did turn out nice and is paraded around for all to see yearly bringing this stuff up again.
I'm good. I won't speak of it anymore. I said what I wanted to and I'm glad you interjected. If Bob wants to elaborate more here he can and I'll leave it at that.
As far as me borrowing money, thats about as true as "you sold the car to settle a gambling problem".

 For those of us late to the game without a real clue to what happened with the business end of this build .I can ascertain that some cloudy business transactions took place .
I don't know any of the actors in this drama but It's bit sad to read of this type of thing ,especially here.
I guess the only positive takeaway from this circle jerk would be, Keep your business relationships and friendship separate. If you do a transaction have a true meeting of the minds on the terms and keep records .
When you get into $$ up to $30-$40K people can't help but be envious of what they perceive as a windfall . Friends and relationship are damaged if there are loose ends $$ that are not tied up.
Bottom line if your buddy has the part pay by check . Keeps written records.Or simply don't do business with A__SHOLES!
One more word for the administrator of this site , How about rejecting any post that is critical or attacks others character. I find it very distasteful to read . It doesn't reflect well on the website.

Erik , That's fine i'm not looking to build a fan club ,so can we just move on and talk about cars ?
What do you think The 63 will go for on BAT?
I'm curious if it will make reserve. There's gotta be $30K into that build ,not counting the labor. It's an exceptional Notch restoration. |

Its creeping to 18k. If it gets over 25k Ill be impressed. Im happy and sad when I see the big #'s. Happy that the crap Ive drug around and invested so much of my life in is paying off. Sad that that same 14 year old I was 31 years ago won't ever have the same opportunity with what I had , today.
But people collect all kinds of stuff. Im sure there will be a collectable something for the kids now to hoard later

Like any online auction it won't get interesting until the last 10 minutes.
To the right buyer I could see it going for $35K + . But is that buyer aware it's for sale . Thats the difficult thing about these online auctions /sales they often don't attract the high dollar buyers in the numbers that the live auctions like Barret Jackson. BJ does a lot of advertising and they bring in the $$.You also have the advantage of putting you hands on the actual car prior to bidding .
I actually won a BAT action a while back on a Notch but didn't make reserve so it went nowhere. I gotta say I was kinda relieved , buying a used car sight unseen is a little scary to me . |

I don't think it'll hit 25K. Everybody knows I bid it to 17.5 - I just sold mine and I'll be honest I think it was just as nice but not lowered, was matching numbers and more this one isnt, mine had more OG stuff to the car, it didn't need any parts to complete it. and the aprons werent smashed like this one, which will require a re-paint
I bought mine sight unseen but did my homework. It's not the first time I've bought sight unseen and probably not the last
This car is not for me. I'm glad this all came to light, I wouldnt have bid 17.5 if I knew. Yes it does matter to me
