Just got an email from Kris....If you don't know, they did move a while back and are still dealing with some logistics issues. Sounds like the have most of it sorted out and should have everything worked through in another week or so. I totally understand - moved a couple businesses and its a pain in the ass. I placed 2 orders recently and 1 just got shipped and it sounds like the other one will be going out any day now.
They are working on it..... _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone 1914. Ex wifes car.

I'm going to have to dial back my praise for CIP a little bit. I have praised them loudly in other posts, mostly for their prices and free shipping but today I found out something that made me think twice about buying from them:
They will not post your feedback on a product if it falls below a certain rating. The rating is 1-5 and if you give it a 3 or less they won't put it at the bottom of the item description. Rate it a 4 or 5 and it's there. This seems very wrong to me.
Will I still buy from them? Probably. Just be aware that the blindingly good feedback you see about their items has been filtered. |
I have noticed the same... only the glowing reviews get posted and many of mine may not be four or five stars but given the lack of useful information and description on the site they would provide the kind of helpful information that CIP seems uninterested in putting up in their descriptions.
Disclaimer: CIP is local to me, and I've been buying parts from them since 1990 (before that actually, I think) when they had a retail outlet on Kingsway and a warehouse that later became the store over on Macpherson at Beresford. I know some of the long time guys - they're legit enthusiasts, and I've bought a lot of parts from them over the years... although I buy more from Wolfsburg West now, I just got tired of constantly being disappointed and WW has been a nice change.
Maybe we need to start posting the 'real' part reviews here including part numbers so that the search function can be used? I have a couple pages at CIP that have never been published so maybe I should start. I would be happy to order from a Canadian vendor but I don't like crap parts on my car, so it would be nice to know if an item is solid, or not. |

OK, I'll start
Product: VWC-113-609-237-D - NEW BRAKE SHOE SET FRONT - BEETLE 58-64 / GHIA 58-64 (NO CORE CHANGE)
VWC-113-609-537-B - NEW BRAKE SHOE SET REAR - BEETLE 58-64 / GHIA 58-64 (NO CORE CHARGE)
Your rating: (two stars)
Review Title / Subject: Fix the Description.
Type your Review... These are not Euromax as described, I got sent Empi parts. They fit, but they are pretty crudely finished. I would pay for a good set of semi-metallics if CIP sold them.
(the site still describes them as Euromax, which have been much better quality than the Empi in my experience) |

VWC-113-255-355-C - HEATER BOX TO BODY INSULATED HOSE 60MM X 50MM (FOR INSTALLING LATE STYLE HEATER BOXES INTO AN EARLY CAR) - BEETLE 63-67 / GHIA 63-67 / BUS 63-67 - SOLD EACH
Your rating: (three stars)
Review Title / Subject: Fits snugly, no clamps needed....
Type your Review... and does not have asbestos rings like the originals did which is a major plus, but not as flexible and with exposed fiberglass inside that blows out loose bits. If you need one it will work but you might be better with your old ones if they don't have the asbestos rings, or plan to take the inner core part out of your old ones and reuse it. Can be disassembled like the originals. |

Ordered some disc brake and electrical fuel pump parts on-line. They arrived in 5 days with free shipping. I've been buying from California Import Parts for over 25 years, always prompt service and excellent packing. _________________ Neil.

Just wanted to give an update concerning my issues with shipments from CIP1.ca (Canadian CIP1). I decided to take the plunge and try out Concept-1 in Calgary, AB. Wow! What a difference! First, if you are going to use the cheaper Klokkerholm replacement panels, these guys are the official distributor of these products. As an example. Front apron with over-ride holes (1966 beetle) $90 from Cip1, $33 from Concept-1. The savings are incredible. Also, first order was shipped out the same day and I had it within 3 days of placing my order at my door. Second order was quite large, put in on Wednesday morning. Shipped out yesterday at around noon PST, will receive on Tuesday next week. I have not had any issues - touch wood - so I can't say anything about returns, etc. But their policy is same day shipment or guaranteed in 3 days. I will be dealing with Concept-1 from now on. I will probably have to order something in the future from Cip1, but will never be in a hurry. |

just my experience....
Ordered a new aftermarket single port intake manifold from cip1 at the beginning of the month being unable to find a good used german manifold. It arrived and did not fit. Cip1 tells me it is narrower than original. Almost every critical dimension was off significantly. It will be a month soon and they will not accept my return even after sending pictures. I knew better than to try cip1 after my last fiasco with them 8 yrs ago...i thought mabey thet changed the way they do business... nope! Terrible quality and extremely poor customer service. Buy elsewhere at all cost.. i hope they eventually do the right thing.......
update:
got an email today from cip1. they WILL credit me for the crappy manifold. i am glad they did the right thing but surprised the manufacturer didnt want the part for inspection. told me to keep it. only took around a month. |

Ordered a CSP Wasp stainless steel muffler kit that wasn't available locally. Free shipping from CIP1 via FedEx, with tracking # provided. The box arrived in 6 days and was extremely well packed for safe delivery. _________________ Neil.

Ok... So, everything I've been ordering lately has been shipping from Canada. Do I have to buy from the Canada store to ship from California?? _________________ My 70 beetle was totaled Now to build the Ghia I always wanted. Rest in peace Ruby, I will miss you. Hello <insert Ghia name here>! |

CIP1 is based in Canada, not California. |

I got some tail lights from CIP, one was cracked. I paid extra for 2 day shipping. When I emailed them, they sent a new lens, also overnight or 2 day.
I was very happy with their service. A lot of their parts are cheap and crappy, but that's how the market is, not a reflection of CIP, you need to know what you're buying.
Anyway, very pleased. |

Very pleased with their service too... Even though I shop for the "California" store, shipping from Canada is very quick. _________________ My 70 beetle was totaled Now to build the Ghia I always wanted. Rest in peace Ruby, I will miss you. Hello <insert Ghia name here>! |

I am actually very surprised---- placed order on Sunday late night and it arrived here in FL via DHL on Wednesday afternoon! Coming from BC Canada to the coast in only about 68 hours.I like CIP1 NJlots, but I do scrutinize the Chinese parts quality. _________________ "A life of peace and happiness depends on your own gratefulness" |

I know a while back they were moving their warehouse and things got really slow, but have to tell you, over at least the last 6 months or more, the shipping has become amazing. I almost always use the free shipping. I placed an order yesterday (Friday) and will not be surprised if it shows up by Wednesday.
I have been using them for over 10 years and this is the best its ever been. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone 1914. Ex wifes car.

Another "good job" to CIP-1 for their blazing fast free shipping. I ordered a small part and it arrived in less than 4 days. I agree, their shipping has been fast the last several times I've used them.

I ordered a JK sliding window for our 69 Bus. The package arrived in San Diego just 2 days after ordering. They did a spectacular job packing the window. They put it in one box with peanuts and padding, and then that box went into another box with more peanuts and padding. That's how to pack fragile items well! Thanks. _________________ Larry in OB
