Aren’t you using the stock Volkswagen body harness? So basically you just needed the engine ECM harness?Whereas I’m using the motor and body wiring harness for all the Subaru accessories . that’s why I probably have more wires. _________________ I may not be the best, but when the top 10 get together, they all talk about me. |

Yes and yes. I forgot you’re using the Subie gauges, drive by wire, etc. |

Bruce, this is such a rad build! I have thoroughly enjoyed the couple of hours I spent reading through this.
I've owned a few heavily modified Subarus over the years, my favorite being my nearly 400hp STi. I've gotta say that it's pretty fun to see parts from Cobb, Invidia, and IAG in a thread on here lol.
I'm very excited to continue to follow along with this build that's combining my love of powerful Subarus and vintage Bugs together. Turbo Subies are my area of expertise, so if you ever have any questions, I'd love to try to help! Hope all is well with you and your health as well. _________________ Think Small

Thinking of modifying this spoiler off a Cadillac I have . Cut the ends to flow with the body lines .

Thanks . I love quick cars and I always loved beetles . Had 7 when I was married to my first #{%|<|# . Wife. When I sold my race car a few years back I wanted to build something I could drive everyday if I want and stil hurt some feelings . So here I am .
Car might go on hold for a month after I get this operation. Removing the prostrate . Probably won’t happen till February . Im sure I’ll be fine after that .
Playing electrician right now . Man I hate this . Problem I’m having using most of the Subaru stuff is I don’t what I’ll really need and what I can remove .
Some of the things I’m not using .
Anything in the door, mirrors, electric windows , locks . Airbags .security system
Things I need .
Engine management gauges. Wipers, lights horn ambient temperature sensor
Radio control on the steering wheel. Rear lights. Starting and charging system. steering column. And a lot of those wire run into another body control module. I don’t know which ones I can remove without putting it into a limp mode or a no start mode.
Just doing whatever research there is out there and there isnt a lot .
I could just put the whole clusterfuck in there and look like crap, but that ain’t me. I have the wiring diagram and can see where a wire might connect to.”, but you can’t find any here that tells you which one you can remove and still not effect other things that might run off it. Cause they have tons of wires that interconnect with each other . _________________ I may not be the best, but when the top 10 get together, they all talk about me. |

As a lover of quick cars as well, this one will definitely surprise people! I hope the surgery goes well for you too, and wish you a speedy recovery.
Regarding the wiring, I hate it too. I've helped swap turbo Subaru engines into a few of my friends' non-turbo Subarus over the years, and even that is a huge ordeal with harness merging. Taking an entire harness like what you're doing is not for the faint of heart!
There's a company called iWire that used to do a lot of harness merging for people in the Subaru community that were doing engine swaps. You could try reaching out to them and seeing if that's a service they still offer, or at the very least maybe they can point you in the direction of what you can and can't remove from the harness. Best of luck!

Thanks for the well wishes.
Yes I emailed Iwire last week asking for some guidance and they emailed me back asking for more details. Told them I would be more than willing to pay whatever for advice. I’m sure they don’t work for free .Just waiting for a reply. _________________ I may not be the best, but when the top 10 get together, they all talk about me. |

Maybe ask Tim Seward in the off-road forum. I think he might have offered a subaru to vw harness adaption service. |

OK, but I'm not using any VW wiring. I'm putting the whole harness from the Subaru in it with all the gauges and steering column , A|C controls.Im just trying to find out which wires i have to keep and which wires i can pull out to try to slim down the harness to make it more workable .Right now it looks like a bowl of spaghetti. _________________ I may not be the best, but when the top 10 get together, they all talk about me. |

I’m thinking the pleated sections red since the center of my seat will be pleated like that in red . Well more dark red _________________ I may not be the best, but when the top 10 get together, they all talk about me. |

Are those aluminum door panels? Very sharp looking! If you want to add some color look into dying rather than painting. https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY/comments/lfpon/anodiz...?rdt=54212
A buddy had a porsche dash panel dyed red and it kept the metallic look, gave it lots of depth. WOW!!!
This project is titanic! I admire you more than I envy you...only slightly. |

Thanks , yes I used the dye on my dash board. Of course the dash is a different material though. Thanks for the link

I have the spoiler just about done. had to cut and shape it to the Bug body lines and fit perfect. I just have it up there to fit. Ill change the mounting hardware later. Came off a 2012 cadillac suv. Im going to mount a third b\rake light to it also. Kind of stands out right now with it being black on a gray primer .

Nice…that looks great…and it ‘looks’ fully functional. Longish tail and decent angle. 3rd brake light has plenty of real estate to mount to too. I like it!
[Now please don’t go mounting a windshield visor too! ]
How many fasteners did you mount to roof with? Did you use Rivnuts or just sheet metal screws?
Is that a TR6 in the foreground or a Ferrari Daytona (ala Miami Vice)? |

Thanks. to trial fit it I just put some sheet metal screws in it. I will probably rivnut It and use some stainless steel button head screws to mount it. I have to make some brackets for the center so it will have four mounting points. No I don’t plan on putting a windshield visor on it, but it was a thought.
That’s a friend of mine’s triumph. he wants to get it done to go, cruising with me. _________________ I may not be the best, but when the top 10 get together, they all talk about me. |

One fitted and one to go . Just double checking fit , then take them off and work them . Doors open a little so it makes the body line look off, but it’s right on all the way shut.
