Wonder what the rush is anyway... why is everyone is such a big rush to do everything - this sellers strength is gunna come from his patience. |
did anyone take the time to READ his ad in the link? he's a young guy that has stage 4 colon cancer hence the need to sell, and is trying to do so before he dies. so, there is NO time to wait. in a perfet world he would beat it, but it sounds from his blog/ad that this is the end for him |

somehow you have attempted (failed) to mind-read by saying i want to pay "pennies on the dollar"????
If you bothered to read.....I have described the collection as NICE (using all caps for emphasis).Your speculation on my motivations is complete bullsh*t |
Just read your own words. You are talking the collection value down and pushing for low package deal pricing. You have bought and sold and moved 'tons' of cars, so it's likely a source of income for you if not your main business. You are pushing hard for a quick ballpark price first from the Samba community, and then from the seller (harder and more repeatedly than anyone else on this thread), but when directly asked to put your valuation out there you dodge the question. So yes of course I opine that you want to talk the stuff down to buy it cheap, which I find in bad taste given the sellers situation. Other people are sensibly proposing auctioneers, but not you. But you can of course make your 'motivations' crystal clear so that all your comments below make sense.
"The parts are NICE.....but far from rare."
"what other "must have" cars or parts are there? The multiple ROUGH 61-67 hardtop projects????? The Super Beetle steering columns??? I dont think so..... "
"The hardtop 1960's projects are nice......but pretty pedestrian and uninspiring. Maybe $1000-$2500 each?????
The parts collection is very nice.....but it would have to be sold at a huge discount from retail to do a "take all" buy. Washer fluid reservoirs and shopping carts full of used CV joints are not very fast movers..... "
I don't think an auction for this collection would have very many people "flying-in" to participate. It is just not that exciting of a stash.
"I have bought tons of cars from the East Coast and I have shipped tons of California cars to the East Coast. Not a big deal...... "
"OK...... let me be the first to throw out the question in public: How much is this collection worth as a lot? "
I hate "make offer" situations. Throw a price out so people at least know where you stand.......
"Perhaps it is better emotionally for this family to sell it all together for the "quick nickel" rather than burden the survivors with the headache, time, and effort of the "slow dime"??????"
"perhaps he should just come up with a number that he is comfortable with and throw it out there. Then people can (quickly) decide if they want to pursue it or not."

Go play with your 1973 Super Beetle and stop ASSuming things you know absolutely nothing about.

Lucas has passed away.
He was a friend of mine and a few of those Bugs did sell on Samba about 10 years ago. I tried to help get rid of them all, at the time, but it didn't work out. Hopefully the rest will find appreciating new owners.

Sorry to hear about your friend Lucas. Sorry for your loss.
Do you have any idea if an estate sale of some type will happen, or information about the collection's fate. _________________ Good Luck
