Goodness, is this van listed at a ~$25K discount because it needs an engine (and comes with stuff needed for a K24 swap)? I'm browsing for a Sinka but this van is very attractive to my novice Syncro eyes.

1986 Westfalia Syncro Price: $18500
Plans have changed and I will be parting with my 1986 Westfalia Syncro. Bought off the 2nd owner with 131,000 miles. I have a Range Rover Classic project that takes priority. The entire underneath of the van is super clean and rust free. Van ran and drove from New Hampshire to Massachusetts with no issues. The interior is in mint condition. The seats are perfect, the curtains with rear and side screen are in excellent shape. This Westy was well loved and well taken care of over the years. All the truck needs is a new owner to take her the rest of the way. This is truly a great survivor. $18,500.00 or Best Offer. I have a clean Massachusetts title in my name and an accident-free Carfax. I am not looking for trades, cash only. Come and look at it and let's make a deal. _________________ - Jim

Guilty as charged.
Current: 1990 Westy Camper - Bostig RG4, 2wd, manual trans w/Peloquin, NAHT high-top, 280 ah LFP battery, 160 watts solar, Flash Silver, seam rust, bondo, etc., etc.
Past: 1985 Westy Camper - 1.9 wbx, 2wd, manual trans, Merian Brown, (sold after 17 years to Northwesty who converted it to a Syncro). |

Yes that seems like a decent deal for the right person. With some work could be a nice camper.
Of course it will have to be trailered to it's new home, and it's not quite as rust free as he claims in the ad, the body has rust issues (check out his gallery).
Have certainly seen worse go for more! _________________ Currently:

I remember that guy's thread. He ran out of steam. It was suggested he put the 2.1 back in and sell it, looks like he's cutting his losses. Good on him, that's a hard thing to do.
You're definitely the right kind of buyer. Obviously someone with no van experience would have a hell of a time figuring things out when buying a van with no motor. If I had 18.5k laying around, I wouldn't mind a nicer condition Syncro. Nicer color too. _________________ '87 Syncro Ferric Oxyhydroxide Superleggera Edition

Anyone buying that van should plan on dropping the fuel tank before finishing the motor/transaxle install. There are signs the bulkhead is starting to rot. _________________ Currently:

We could switch to a leaf backed dollar so money grew on trees. To curb inflation we could burn the forests! _________________ '91 Carat Westy

Here's an '84 Adventurewagen with Sube swap and Merc wheels for less than $10K but it looks like it's been parked for a while and there aren't many photos.
