By the way, I do see the front bumper blade in the photo which would indicate 71 or earlier, however, the open door shows a black cap at the top such as was found on 72 - 74 cars?? Might European cars have had a difference from US cars in that area? Or perhaps a modification/restoration? |
Hmmm...I don't think there would have been a modification as Alex (the owner) said he thinks the picture was taken in 1973; a bit too early to mess with modifications.
This is a picture of a UK RHD I took at a show a few years ago...I have this one as a '72...not sure if the wheels were an option or aftermarket.

Betty was a talented artist! The fishermen painting is quintessential San Francisco from the 60s and 70s. She had a great eye for her subject matter. _________________ '58 Ghia 2387cc with a Berg / Folts 5 Speed

Yesterday was another landmark day in my ownership.
After running my Ghia on Firestone Whitewalls Cross-plies for the past 17 years I thought it was time to renew. For safety's sake I decided it was time to go radial. I settled on a set of Kontio Whitepaw Whitewalls 165/80R15 87R at a very nice price after negotiating a discount for members of the KGOC (GB). They're a Finnish brand and have a good reputation. Lets see if it's borne out in practice.
Last picture of the Ghia on Firestones on the way to Vintage Tyres, at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu Hampshire.
The first picture of the Ghia on Kontio Radials...the pretty baby blue boots are the protective coating on the tyres.
After a day of scrubbing the tenacious blue protective coating I went for a drive around the local roads to take pictures.

Looking fantastic as always. The new tyres really don't look very different to the Firestones and I should think the braking performance will be better. Mind you, the difference is most pronounced in the wet and you seem to manage to avoid that! |

Thanks Dave. I think the look of the tyre was one of the main factors in settling on the cheap option.
Seriously though as well as wet weather performance (it has been out in the rain) the Radial ride is more forgiving, softer.
I rarely drive on fast roads but do like to drive fast on slow roads so Radials were an obvious choice.
BTW Firestone White wall cross-plies are now £330 each, Konitos are less than £200. _________________ John.

Yep it's a very simple concept. Find a picturesque view and stick your Ghia in front of it. Don't worry if your car is not supposed to be there, by the time someone in authority arrives, you're gone and you have your picture . |

A few weeks ago "Betty's Baby" posed for a pro-photoshoot for UK magazine, "Classic Car."
At long last Betty's and my Ghia make it into the glossies after an eventful life of 67 years. It must have been a busy photoshoot as I only have time to take one picture of my own, Jonny at work.
Please don't share the picture without the photocredit. https://www.jonathanfleetwood.co.uk/

Thank you very much for the pics.
But what means that shiny flat oval round "GB" sticker?
Green Beans, Great Balls or Grey Bones under the rear hood?
Or Ghost Brother with Great Blower (Shorrock)
Last pic, is there Catweazle beside or between the trees?
Sorry all, for the jokes
In Germany, "GB" could mean "Griminal Bolizei" |

Haha, I'd settle for either "Griminal Bolizei" or Great Blower (Shorrock).
If I drive in mainland Europe with that "GB" badge I think I would be stopped by the "Griminal Bolizei". Cars from Great Britain have to show a "UK" badge. _________________ John.

Again what learned.
But mid pic, Catweazle at the wheel?
