I don't think that's a formal balcony either - I think they just crawled out the window to relax out there.

Since it's the roof of an old house I doubt there's a weight issue. It's probably massively overbuilt

It's pumping something through a meter. The wind vane (if it even is one) may be to alert the operator if he becomes down wind.

Just my guess.

it's a cool-o-meter and he's just noticed that every time it points at the bus it goes into the max zone Cool

So rare, all black deluxe. This one looks like a '65, pointed rear bumper with slash trim. A friend in our area has an original black deluxe, its a '64.

Katastrophenschutz direct translation: catastrophy protection

Kat-Schutz buses had special options like rescue and recovery hooks near the bumpers.
Some were similar to ambulances, others were like this one with a big pump inside.

I always like the Kat-Schutz buses, often low miles, like fire engines, ambulances, THW (Technisches Hilfswerk), and often very interesting options.

Totally.

I followed the hose and it goes to the thing on the tripod so now I think that is the sprayer to do whatever the chemical does. It must be potent.

an interesting set-up. surely they could have just had safari windows and a roof hatch or sunroof bus and he could film from inside the bus...
