I think I've seen a couple post were people have stated you can buy a new link pin front clip to replace the ball joint clip, does anyone know who sells this?

Nearly every VW parts supplier on the internet, including CIP, Mofoco, SoCal, etc. Mofoco and others have them on ebay for about $80 or so, and I have seen them cheaper, but you need to add shipping.

Anyone ever used one?
Are they all made from 32 gauge sheet, with a tack-weld every 8 inches? I've seen some pretty sad excuses for "OEM" fenders and such...

I used one from California Imports. It was pretty decent right out of the box.

I used one from Mid-America. It is very straight forward to install. I banded the new LP framehead with a piece of the old framehead for added strength. It is definately not 32 gauge. It was as thick as the one that was on my pan, but I suspect the one on my pan was a replacement.

CIP1 is running a 10% off internet orders deal right now...not sure if the framehead qualifies for their free shipping.

Thanks for all the help every one, the one brad posted doesnt seem like a bad deal at all. Going out to pawn shops today to look for a welder. I havent done any welding since high school and then not much so this could get interesting Shocked so from what I understand there are 8 tack welds on the frame head, so can I grnid thouse off and remove the bj front end? then when attaching the LP frame head I should weld it solid correct? Im so excited cant wait to get this project rolling Very Happy

Before you start, give some more thought about your intentions.

Do you want to leave it in the stock location, or should you position it slightly forward to increase the cars stability? Lots of guys who swap over to a link pin beam will move it forward between 2-4 inches. This increases the wheelbase and also frees up some clearance for the tires.

you should also consider modifying the stock frame head if your sole intention is to mount a link pin beam and you do not wish to alter the wheelbase. This is probably your best route if you intend to run R&P steering. The reason is, the frame head will need to be modified slightly to allow for a R&P mount. At this point, you can just go a step further and modify the stock frame horn while leaving it attached to the car.

These are just a couple of things I wanted to point out before you tear into the project.

I sawzalled mine with the body in place, approx 3/4 " fwd. Then I welded a piece of 1/8" strap, 2" wide to to bottom of the pan, the width of the frame head, 1" under the pan and 1" protruding for the frame head to rest on. Makes it alot easier to square up with the frame setting on that piece of strap and it adds some welding surface. Then I tied the cage to the beam, I went stock wheelbase per class 5/1600 rules. Heres a pic I stuck in the gallery, hope it helps.

Uncle Dirty--Do you have a website with more pictures? Everytime I see one of your pictures, I see great ideas for my project. I would like to see more!

I'm glad you like my car. I don't really have that many pictures, yet alone a web site. I'll post what I do have in the gallery.

That is exactly what I want!! Shocked and am trying to do but with the stock size warrior beam it is really hard to find a place for the clamps to go on by the steering box.
