I can't seem to get the outside sliding door "cover" off. (the cover that covers the sliding door roller assembly) I have removed the sheet metal screws from below but it wont budge when I try to push up on the cover. I dont want to damage it or deform it trying to force it off with a rubber mallet. Is there some trick to get it to come lose? I know it must be pushed "up" to remove it but it wont budge.

Remove the two screws holding it in place.
Grab it a gently flex it outward and watch the seam.
Try knocking it up with the palm of your hand from under it.
Make sure you are flexing it so the attachment points for the screws are past the chassis points.

Use a rubber mallet if the palm doesn't do it.

If the plastic gasket is toast, Go Westy sells them.

The top lip is a "friction" fit. Over time, dirt etc collect in there making it a tighter fit. You could try spraying the top edge with silicone spray. They will come off, some are more difficult than others. Good luck.
