just found something funny in the fat chick classified......

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=154599

Quote:
Here we have 1 1975 bus and 1 1965 split window for sale. The 1975 Baywindow has a 1800cc motor with it and a title. All lights work. Brakes seem good. Body needs some work, but is definately worth restoring in my opinion. Glass is good. Headliner too. Seats and interior all look good. Tires hold air and seem to have a good amount of tread left. The motor is currently out of the bus. It is fuel injected. The 1965 split window is basically just for parts. it needs alot of work, but I think that it is a barn door? (has the 2 doors on its side) Has tranny. no motor. I was going to use the 75 to fix up my split window. Must sell due to my wifes health problems. Any offer considered! Will consider fairly local delivery for additional $$.
No title for the 65 splittie.(side step on 75 sold!!)

I stopped and asked about a 65 standard and the SC behind it. The owner said he'd take 2k for the truck and the "barndoor van".
Since it's so rare I should go get it Wink

Thats nothin', I remember an add a while back for a '66 (I think) bus with "double barndoors on both sides." As near as I can tell, that means that the bus comes with its own enterage...everywhere it travels, 4 barndoor busses follow right beside it.

enkiel....oh enkiel.....pretty much EVERYTHING on a barndoor is different from non-barndoors.

it's not just about the engine lid.

Yeah, but isn't it because of the engine lid size that they're called barndoors? That was my understanding anyway. Embarassed

nope.

i mistaken once with an ambulance cause it had a small engine lid, so i though it wasnt a barndoor, that's all

here are a few things that i think are fairly obvious:
longer engine vents, shorter windshields, different door handles, different door indents, no wiper indents, 3 piece dog legs, cargo doors, cargo floors, outriggers, jackpoints, glass, tail lights, rim size, rear roof corners, dash, steering wheel, horn button, push button start, no rear hatch (most BDs) interior, front seat mounts, middle seat, rear seat, bulkhead, headlight glass, spare tire location, no fresh air intake, this is all off the top of my head and stuff you can readily see at a glance.

there are some barndoor features that extend into april of 56.

Well its a split so of course it has 2 doors on its side! Perhaps he'll read that and just remove any reference to the cargo doors!
