Lately when I've been driving my car I've smelt melting plastic very strongly, there isn't anything in the engine that looks melted and I'm possitive the emergency brake isn't on. What could it be?

Is this with or without the heater turned on? Sometimes I've seen a plastic wrapper get sucked into the engine and melt on the cylinder fins and make some odd smells. I've seen the plastic cage in early engine-to-body air ducts fall apart and start to melt before too. (around here, annually we get in the way of the migration of army cutworm "Miller" moths which will get into everythng. One of the worst smells from a VW heater came from my heater boxes being full of those things, ack!)

Lets see, you have a 67, right? There's not a lot of other stuff on this that I can think of that might cause a plasticky smell. A shorted wire might start out that way but would soon turn "crispy" then you'd have smoke. hmmm....

Brake drags can smell that way too. If your car does not roll on a slight incline in neutral, you may have a brake drag.

When my light switch was going bad, it smelled that way for a couple days...one day smoke started coming up through the dash, and I found it to be pretty badly burned/melted...good thing I caught it before it got worse...definitely check through the electrical system, and make sure nothing is shorting out, no inappropriate touching, nothing melting or even hot, etc...
