Apparently 72-73 have that very unique two year only laminate color (golden pecan-very grainy) I can't seem to find it anywhere.

The links here are very instrumental on how to do it and even order other model years color laminate.

Does anyone even know what I am talking about? I am trying to re-laminate everything but want to get as close as I can.

I might be wrong, but I don't think you can get that stuff anymore. Just like the earlier models, you can get close but I don't think exact.
I'm sorry I can't even help finding "close" for you either but maybe someone will chime in that does.
You're talking about the laminate that is on the closets, ice box unit, jump seat etc. 72-73 models have the same color/grain of laminate.

Put it this way. You cant even find the later stuff. The 74-79 patern. They made that a hundreds times more than yours.

It wasn't till this last year did they replicate it over in Europe. Now it can be had to a certain degree.

As you said - your pattern and color would need to be in vogue to a certain extent to be made or close to. If you can't find it then you are SOL. Most of us were SOL and that's why you see info on people using different stuff and or repairing the og stuff with used pieces.

Go to your local cabinet - laminate covering wholesaler. They will have hundreds to choose from and is your best bet.

How bad is yours? It may be possible to wait for another broke set to pop up ten buy it salvaging the OG laminate?

At this point, I am content with getting something close. However, I don't even know where to begin looking for these "wholesalers"

Who would they be? Names?

Google images shows thousands of patterns. Use this phrase... cabinet laminate sheet.

You're welcome.

You'll have to figure out the modern equivalent of this:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Start with kitchen cabinet makers, lumber stores that cater to finishing carpenters and then possibly marine interior shops, most will have a selection of sample tiles and if they can't get you the stuff they will be able to tell you where to look.

Step 1:
Walk to your big box home improvement store of your choosing. I like Lowes, but I worked there 10 years. Maybe you like Home Depot. Maybe you have a local one. Who knows.

Step 2:
Go to the cabinet department, sample in hand.

Step 3:
Use the orbs in your face.

Step 4:
Ask an employee for other samples, show them yours. Engage in witty conversation. Throw in at least one reference to the local weather.

Step 5:
Follow up on any leads he/she has, and get as close as you can.

Step 6:
Rinse Repeat

Nevamar, Pionite, Formica, Laminart are a few laminate manufacturers.

I ordered some Pionite from this place last year.
http://www.woodstocksupply.com/catalog/pionite-laminate.html
They were pretty reasonable and easy to buy from with quick shipping.

Click on the link then click the "Wood Grains" link on the left side of the page.

BusDaddy pretty much hit it head on - you have to dig and look at what is out there near you. If you look on Google under Wilsonart, and Formica you will get the two largest manufacturers of laminates available. Both websites have a "where to buy" link. Go visit your local dealer, and look at the samples of laminates available. It will be a fun project for you.

There are other brands out there. Here is a webpage with some.
http://www.laminatecountertops.com/laminatecolors.htm

These kinds of laminates change over time. Example - here is a link to some current Wilsonart surfaces.

Wilsonart laminate has a wide variety (100's) of different textures and colors combinations. I ordered & bought from a local building supply. Comes in 49" wide by 8' or 12'lenghts. It is shipped rolled up; about 18'' dia.
Either Lowes or Homeless can also special order. I was trying to match earlier 70 bay interior ceiling so I selected Limber Maple # 10734-60.
Last two digits are for specifying surface texture
