I recently tried installing headers w/ J-tubes on my '60 bug. Decided against it when two bolts in the case broke (original engine). Put the original exhaust back on as good as I could but have some exhaust leaks even after putting on exhaust sealer. Ever since, my normally perfect running engine won't idle right. It's either too high or barely running. I use the manual choke to contantly adjust the idle. It also always wants to die everytime I come to a stop. Thanks for any help.

I'm guessing you broke a couple studs in the head? If that's it, I'd drill em out carefully and re-tap them soon. They hold a little weight, especially with the stock exhaust. You'll probably never get a proper seal, and it'll get worse as the hot air burns up the gaskets. If it's the studs in the rear, you may be better off just pulling the engine out and doing it right, and get your header on there.

Not only does it run bad, it sounds bad, and can cause a handful of problems in the near future.
