|
|
Hey, My buddy's dad is going to sell his '64 Sunroof Deluxe bus. We checked the Vin on the bus Vin decoder, and it's a genuine German sunroof deluxe, based on the Samba thread discussing M plates.
He bought it in '95, from a guy who had restored it into a lowered, cal-look bus with a custom interior and Honda seats. The middle seat is from a late bus, but both rear seats are upholstered in color matched, custom upholstery from the era. It's actually an amazing time capsule, it's always been garaged and only taken to local car shows over the past 31 years, where it's won awards. The paint is glossy and super clean, it looks like a semi-professional paint job to me, but I remember thinking it could use some polishing/finishing work to get it to perfect. His mom - in her 90's - knitted custom, color keyed head rest covers. He also had an upholsterer craft a color matched front bra.
It's an ultra clean, late 80's, early 90's Hot VW's inspired time capsule and runs and drives perfectly. Slammed, too. Tires are probably old, I wouldn't drive it home or anything. LOL.
Is it reasonable to post photos here and get your opinion of the bus. I think they're going to take it to an auction in August, but also want to post a separate, featured ad here on TS in the mean time, before the auction. I know bus values have been all over the place, what are they like currently?
Photos coming soon. _________________ **SUPPORT THE SAMBA**

all over the place
my gut feel is that the time capsule 90's hot vw thing may limit the audience.
i'm sure the forum would love to see the bus , if its cool with the owner then post em up |

Nice Bus.
I like that the exterior and paint look really nice.
Interior and seats are not to my taste but that's a lot easier to re-do than paint and body.
I feel like this Bus would sell really easy.
BAT might be a good outlet for it if you are unsure of value. _________________ How to Post Photos

I was looking at BAT sold prices for similar busses, it's crazy, values ranging from 50K - 125K, for very similar busses. Looks like it's really anyone's guess as to what the value would be. _________________ **SUPPORT THE SAMBA**

Yep. That's why BAT is likely the place for this, not a local auction that vw people have never heard of. Ar pay someone like https://holygrailgarage.com/ who is excellent at this. An alternative would be to restore the interior to original first _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

He should have sold it for $87k. That is all the money for that bus. It probably needs an easy $15k ++ in interior work when you factor in the cost of the missing VW seats and a very nice interior upholstery job. _________________ September 1964 Standard Sunroof walk through SWR/BG original paint. |

Totally agree. Looking at the weird and uneven bodyline between the sill and the the cargo doors, makes you wonder about the quality of bodywork that has been performed on this bus. Even with good amateur bodywork it should't be that hard or difficult to do get that straight and look close to factory original. Some people have unrealistic expectations or maybe (too) big Dollar signs in their eyes when it comes to money... |

Should have takin' the $$$ and run like a bandit
Interior is hideous; those "racing" bucket front seats make my skin crawl.
Wonder what he hacked and drilled to mount them?
Guaranteed there are plenty of hidden turds to be uncovered in the body. I could go on, but this isn't the whine thread. Even if I had the $$$, I'd be wary of any re-painted 21/23 window the way things are faked these days.
There are much better, more original, older 23 windows in the MP right now that are better options. Even those aren't selling, quickly anyway. Many people are really hurting right now, and disposable income for "luxury" items are becoming non-existent. HARD times on the way. _________________ WANTED:

Anytime a bus doesn't sell for a high bid with reserve not met, I suspect shill bidding to get it right up to the reserve so someone who is not a shill has confidence that other people are willing to pay that money for it. Sometimes this is the case, sometimes not, but I don't trust any auction either way. _________________ .
