Uhm, other than being silver, and a couple of dealer options like mudflaps, chrome package, rear jailbars, and some door protection strips down the sides I can't see what's so special about it. It looks nice, but my '79 transporter that I had also had a rear bench and a middle seat too.
15,000 pounds is $27,400! Hope he gets what he wants for it. _________________ '78 Westy

Looks like a dealer special edition to me- I suspect its not that common because they were used to push sales just before the Vanagon came out. Seems a lot for a late bus, especially with a repaint. I'm sure he'll get what he wants for it as UK prices are ridiculous at the moment. Extra's with the dealer editions came as a stick on type kit- they were doing the same with the Beetle too just before the Rabbit, not nearly as rare as the price would suggest, but probably not produced for UK or US market. _________________ 71 West coast Kombi

It was a factory special editon. Like the Champagne Edition. It had its own paint code, 4991.
Scroll down the paint list here:
http://www.type2.com/m-codes/t2colors.html
Here are the order codes:
S723 Champagne I - 1977 Champagne Edition I exported only to USA. Available only as 7 seater microbus
S765 Champagne II - 1978 Champagne Edition II exported only to USA. Available as 7 seater microbus or Westfalia Campmobile
S766 Silberfisch - 1978 Silberfisch made from approximately 4/1978 until 11/1978. Only sold in West-Germany and only available as 9-seater.
Now, I have a problem with that middle seat. It stuck me odd that it was missing the armrest pad. But then I thought..... wait a minute, that is a 2/3 seat. The Silverfish came special because of the seating. Even the seller in that ad stated that! To be a 9 seater, it will need to be a non-walk thru with a full middle seat. And the middle row right pic definitely shows bucket seats. Unless 2 people were sitting on 2 others laps, right now that bus is a standard 7 passenger.
That is all I can tell you about it....... |

Where do you find the model numbers on the bus? I have both a Champagne I and a Champagne II westfalia but can't find those numbers anywhere.

Check the Mcode plate, up underneath the dash on the driver's side. It will have all the option codes. _________________ <---Air Cooled Search & Rescue Team - STICKERS & T-shirts for sale!

the pound is just really high right now, about 1.8 to the dollar...it used to be about on par with the dollar which might make the price seem more reasonable. _________________ KK4NTP

So, no relevant information so far, except Karl (thanks!).
Really guys, I think I've found one, it is covered in another color but you can still see the silver paint inside, the blue interior, the right number of seats, chrome bumpers and stuff but I want to identify him as being part of that 1,600 cars that was made for celebrating the ending of t2 production.
Is not in a best condition and the seller is decided to scrap him if he is not taking the asked money (not cheap). If it is a silverfish worth to pay the money to the guy and take the bus from there. Might be one of the few remains....
Please, drop here whatever you think that can help me identify. Could be ads, brochures, posts, whatever you consider that might help.
Thanks!

Welcome, the M plate riveted on the top of the LH fresh air duct just inside from the signal light has the answer, if the codes include S766 and there's a 6 digit number starting with 4991 on the bottom row in the middle it's a silverfish. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Oki, really nice, thanks busdaddy!
I'll try tomorrow to get there and check the information.
Searching the information about the difference between kombi and microbus I've found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Type_2. After reading the article I didn't realise on spot that I know a silverfish. Only after half an hour i've done the connection (slow brain).
I'll put here what I can remember now about the characteristics of the bus and hopefully I'll make some detailed pictures in a few days: chrome bumpers, late side-trim, sliding roof, blue velour with blue vinyl on the backside, type4 engine, about 170.000km (I have to check if are real), silver paint below the dashboard (the actual color is blue), little bit of perimeter rust but not something, ouch, I just remember that I have some pictures . Let's see how I can attached them.
I guess with links is better.
Tell me what do you think.
Thanks!

Looks like it's not too bad, the plate you posted is the VIN plate and only tells the serial number, the M plate with the options is located just above that relay in the upper left corner of this pic.
