A couple of people have asked about the gas can carrier for my Paulchen bike rack, so here's a quick post on how it was made.
The basic Paulchen rack without the bike attachments has a fold down shelf. I wanted to add a removable carrier for a jerry can that will allow the shelf to fold up.
My buddy Robyn had the tools and the skills to help me realize this so we got some bits of metal from Home Depot and I kept his pint glass topped up while he went to work.
The frame is cut up bed rails and the bottom is grate metal (?) from HD. Robyn cut it all up and welded it together. Aluminum half-clamps secure the carrier with nylock nuts threaded to bolts that are welded on.
There is a tab with a slot for a padlock to fit through.
A bar with heat-bended hook goes across the back to help secure the can.
Another piece of heat-bended metal attaches to the back of the rack and goes over the can with a tab that covers the lid to prevent siphoning. IT meets the base of the carrier and can be padlocked for security.
I positioned it so I could use my safety siphon to fill the tank directly without having to take the can down. Unfortunately my safety siphon doesn't like to work when I want it to! 
There is still have room beside the can to add another carrier tray for things like firewood, BBQ etc.
The only thing I'm not happy about is the finish. I primed and painted it with Beauti-tone Rust Coat outdoor products but it as you can see it scratches down to the metal pretty easily. I will try again with rust converter primer.

Really nice job. Thanks for posting. I'd hoped to rig up something similar with my Fiamma rack but not sure that can be done. Is the Paulchen steel or aluminum?

It's steel. I have no doubt the Fiamma can support the weight but I think it would be harder to make an attachment for it.
The Fiamma does secure to the van better I must say. We put a big load of firewood on the Paulchen and it slid around a bit, taking some paint with it!

Funny, I found one that the seller wants to trade for a Fiamma ~ guess one may be better than the other for bikes!?
