The engine in my car is getting tired so it's time to start building something else but I can't for the life of me decide between rebuilding my old 1776 or rebuilding my 2 liter out of the 914.

The type 4 needs headwork, a basic top end overhaul, some good cleaning, cooling, & a flywheel.

The 1776 when I pulled it last year had just barely started knocking, so It's probably going to need everything.

Which one would you guys rebuild? What are some benifits of the type 4 & type one motors? Whats bad about them?

If I go with the type 4, what should I expect along the lines of reliability & parts cost?

Agreed..if he read half of the type1/type4 debates, he would be able to carve a working type4 out of a block of wood. Cool
