ok so i got my engine back from the machine shope friday, ill never use them again they are worthless. anyways i get my engine almost all the way assebled turned it over several times by hand to set the halves, then we put on little parts here and there and i turn it over a couple more times and it binds the on the distibutor gear, so i took it all the way appart and sure enough the shaft slid up and the gear on the crank is chewed up. what the hell would make it do that. i want to use a magnetic pick up anyways but i cant find one any ideas would be nice, lol i need to get this done stat its pulled appart in my kitchen and the wife isnt happy.

Well the gear will push itself up if the dis is not in, did it take all the teeth off the crank or just lightly chew on em?

The shims have probably fallen to the side blocking the pilot hole, try pulling the drive out and centering the shims sometimes you can lightly tap the drive in

Why are you blaming the machine shop for something entirely your doing?
Looks like pilot-error to me. Very Happy

Of course the distributor drive will ride up when you turn the crank. That is why you install the distributor as soon as you drop the drive in. This is the first thing you do to the case half before you start hanging parts.

im blaming them for a lot of things like charging me for new bearings but putting in old bearings not mocking for clearance like they were suppose to that i payed for. the only thing they did that i payed for was open up the block for the pistons i had to do all the rest yet payed for it to be done by them.
