I just bought a 75 914, with really bald tyres!
It has Rivieras, which size and make of tyre do you guys suggest
165s or something wider?
Car is stock, was originally an evil bright green, supposedely an ex Laguna Seca Pace Car....
Thanks
Graham

Stock tires would have been 165R15: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/75914/page4.jpg

We had 185 60 15's on Pedrini's (5.5) on our old (1975) 914 , backs were close but cleared . TROY

..Graham,
PLEASE do NOT do that,
unless you are planning on NOT enjoying/driving your 914 like it was meant to be driven!!!

I have the Yokohama ES-100's on my '73, size 205/50-15

visit www.914club.com to Search for multiple threads on Tire Sizes.

Good luck,

Sc

Odd, I'd think VW and Porsche would have known how 914s were supposed to be driven. Razz

2005 - 1973 = 32 YEARS

certainly enuf time to *update* and make better what was!

But hey, if you'd rather drive on 165/70-15's instead of
something like a 205/50 or 195/50, go ahead, it is your car after all!

Graham,
Definately put on something wider than a 165. I run 185-65 on mine. The width will depend on the off set of your rims. I run American Racing Equipment rims and 185's are as wide as I can go. I know you can get at least a 195 with those wheels possible even a 205 which is wide enough. They are fun cars, this Oct. I will have owned mine 14 years, man time flys. It was and still is my first car. Good luck.

I run 7x15 911 cookie cutters or 6x15 Fuchs with 205x50's for added grip.
Sell the Riveria's and get some 914 wheels like the four bolt Fuchs or the Mahles which have the correct offset so you can install some wider tires.
